Chris Cuomo's 'haunted' night with coronavirus

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/04/02/chris-cuomo-coronavirus-symptoms/

When the sun came up Wednesday morning, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was already awake. But as Cuomo tells it, his early rising wasn’t by choice.

“I was up all night,” he said during Wednesday’s edition of “Cuomo Prime Time,” broadcast live from his basement where he is self-quarantining after announcing one day earlier that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

‘Let me be proof’: Chris Cuomo, a little paler, broadcasts from his basement after testing positive for covid-19

The cause of Cuomo’s insomnia?

“This virus came at me. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Cuomo said, telling viewers that he was racked with a fever of around 103 degrees “that wouldn’t quit."

“It was like somebody was beating me like a piñata,” he continued. “And I was shivering so much … I chipped my tooth.”

5. His symptoms sound exactly like the ones I had in January.

His interviews with Dr. Gupta have me more convinced that I had corona virus. Before his diagnosis, I had it at about a three percent chance that I had it.

Today, I’m up to at least a 15 percent chance, and I believe I may have pinpointed my contact date with the virus as January 20th.

Edit to add: get better soon, Chris!

7. I very much doubt it. If you did you would now have antibodies that can be detected now, but such

... but such antibody tests are hardly available now, since the tests for the actual virus are much more urgent.

But if you truly have antibodies for it, you are immune.

But I am highly skeptical. Though it is a common theory on the RW sites that this is just a variety of flu that has been circulating since November / December.

9. I understand your skepticism.

I am still about 85% skeptical myself, so I am practicing isolation as much as possible.

I have no idea what any RW site is saying, but I am saying that I while I experienced the normal flu-like symptoms, there were other symptoms that were not normal flu. And it took 12 days before I could function fairly normally.

Hearing Chris talk to Gupta about rigors was quite eye-opening. I had that symptom. It was so weird. I was a very athletic person for my first 50 years, and I grew up in a hot, humid place. I have never, ever sweated like that in my life. I can’t even describe what it was like. Sweat was just pouring out of me for the first couple of days. Pouring.

Chris also talked about talking to his deceased father, and friends from college that were obviously not there with him. I sort of more would see people’s faces when I closed my eyes. (Very strange, but comforting feeling, especially my parents). He had insomnia the first night...I didn’t really sleep for three days, even though all I felt like doing was sitting in my easy chair. I watched so many old movies on TCM.

Another of my symptoms, lack of urination in spite of adequate fluid intake, I saw listed on a CDC notice about what Covid-19 symptoms one might exhibit that would make them go to the emergency room. I am still a little concerned about my kidney function, so I make sure to hydrate. I’m really not sure I have completely recovered 8 weeks later. If I had to put a number on it, I’d say I’m about 91% recovered.

I would take an antibody test in a second.
