Army Warned Two Months Ago Deaths Could Reach 150KWhile the president was still downplaying the COVID-19 epidemic, an Army briefing shared with The Daily Beast shows the service warning of the scale of death Trump now concedes.
An unclassified briefing document on the novel coronavirus prepared on Feb. 3 by U.S. Army-North projected that between 80,000 and 150,000 could die. It framed the projection as a Black Swan analysis, meaning an outlier event of extreme consequence but often understood as an unlikely one.
In other words, the Armys projections on Feb. 3 for the worst-case scenario in the coronavirus outbreak are, as of this week, the absolute best-case scenarioif not a miraculous one.

(95,244 posts)Military minds of necessity must deal in reality. Only so many tons of supplies can be carried on a given number of trucks for a give distance. A round will or will not pierce a given resistance of armor. Belief and will and desire are immaterial to the problem. In present political conditions, the leadership and planners of the armed forces are far from being reliable conservatives. Their jobs require them to know better, and they do.

Assholes probably didn't believe what was happening nor believe what the IC was advising and even models from the Army.
