The first Americans to get relief payments from the government under the coronavirus legislation signed into law last month wont see the money until at least the week of April 13, according to new estimates from the Trump administration provided to House Democrats and outlined in a memo circulated this week by Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee.
Many people who dont have direct deposit information on file with the IRS might have to wait months to get the money.
The memo, obtained by NBC News, says that Americans who have their direct deposit information on file will receive their payments in mid-April, "likely" the week of April 13. The document estimates that about 60 million Americans will receive checks at that point.
About three weeks after those deposits go out, the IRS will start issuing paper checks, likely the week of May 4, according to the memo. The office that issues paper checks can process about 5 million checks per week, so it could take 20 weeks nearly 5 months to get them all out.
The office will process paper checks for the lowest-income Americans first.

(12,712 posts)The IRS hasn't even put up the form for those who need to file something, like: having no SS, income or bank account to direct deposit to, like myself.
Of course, who would be the people that need it the very most? Well, no income, home or money in the bank, of course.
If they wanted to, they could ramp that up, or move to prepaid cards even to send out in order to expedite this.
It's like saying you need antibiotics badly and we'll get them to you in several months from now.
Also, SNAP EBT cards do have a cash payment option and they could be using that for the destitute, as well because they just punch in the numbers, but I haven't heard anything to that effect. That could eliminate the need for a lot of checks.
It is not like these hurdles are impossible to jump, ey? Solutions are available.
Ah, what kind of help is that?

The Democrats were forced to compromise with the Rethugs in order to get the bill passed and that's one of the things that they were forced to give in on.

I'm sure I'm being dense and missing something but ...

(12,712 posts)I used the free, Easy Tax Return that was linked from the IRS site.
I tried to file a return based on no income and nothing else was applicable. After filling it all out, I was told that based on my information, I do not need to file a return and have a nice day. So, all the information was not processed, I assume.
Well, that is a dead end. Is it supposed to prevent people from getting it?
That was funny in a sad way.
