Have you heard that China did this on purpose?
Well, that's what I've heard from three trumplodytes now.
"Why would they do that?", I asked. Next door neighbor: "To make trump look bad because he was hurting their economy." Brother: "Because their economy was in the crapper, so that's where they wanted ours to be, too." Other brother: "They made it in a laboratory to harm us, they didn't mean to infect their own citizens but they don't care about them, anyway." Not surprisingly, all three answers made perfect sense to me... in the sense that I was talking to three stupid people.

1. It's crazy
It's crazy the number of conspiracy theories I've heard over the last several weeks. The last couple of days I've been hearing some of them saying the number of cases and deaths from it are hoaxes, that they're falsified numbers.

7. I predict
a "screw China" movement to take place, no matter how the election turns out. All it would take is about a ten percent permanent loss in imports from China to make things worse for them.
I'm a bit surprised it hasn't started already. |

8. And it should happen
Whether this was released from their bioweapon lab by accident or just arose because they wouldn't shut down the wet markets, nobody can deny that they handled it rather negligently. They literally arrested the first doctor who was trying to warn us all, and made him back down from his statements. That doctor later died from the very virus he was trying to warn the world about.

16. not to mention
Did China tell him to dismantle the pandemic response infrastructure?
Did China tell him to fire the CDC liaison in Beijing? Did China tell him to get rid of the PREDICT program that worked with countries in stopping virus epidemics and pandemics? |

18. They're burning down 5G towers in the UK because Corona
https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/04/04/827343675/u-k-cellphone-towers-ablaze-as-conspiracy-theories-link-5g-networks-to-covid-19
Conspiracy theories tying 5G networks to the coronavirus pandemic are troubling telecom authorities in the United Kingdom and are being cited as possible motivation for multiple cellphone tower fires this week.
Fires on at least three towers have been reported over the past few days. In at least two instances, accompanying videos and online posts are raising concerns that the attacks may be linked to conspiracy theories that cast 5G networks as the actual cause of COVID-19. The first two fires — in Belfast, North Ireland, and Birmingham, England — occurred Thursday. A third occurred on a tower in England's Liverpool area on Friday. The BBC reports that the government says there is no evidence of a link between the Birmingham and Liverpool fires. Though, the Guardian is reporting that Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson had received threats over the "bizarre" theory... |

19. No mention of George Soros?
The omnipresent boogey man of right-wing nutcases?
By the way, speaking of Soros, I remember hearing a bunch of coworkers criticize Bill Gates in 2000. It seemed so weird that he was suddenly a source of scorn to them when they never brought him up previously. I figured they were parroting stuff they heard from right-wing sources, as those particular people had done in the past. I later learned that Gates had recently founded a philanthropic organization to improve healthcare and reduce poverty. |
