Anyone know?
IMO seems an unlikely coincidence that the YouTube clip went viral in the Middle East on the anniversary.of 9/11.

(101,271 posts)2. That was posted by Bacile himself
and is the English language version (what I saw fits that date, anyway). According to AP:
The film was dubbed into Egyptian Arabic by someone Bacile doesn't know, but he speaks enough Arabic to confirm that the translation is accurate.

It could be the translation that triggered this. Reports say it's been controversial in Arab countries for a few days:
Originally filmed in English, the trailer was later translated into Egyptian Arabic.
It has featured in Egyptian media reports for several days, with many conservative clerics publicly denouncing it.
Matters came to a head yesterday when hundreds of protests descended on downtown Cairo, gathering outside the walls of the US embassy.

Last week it came to far wider attention after an Egyptian-American Copt, Morris Sadek, posted a blog post in Arabic and an English-language newsletter and claimed to have plans to screen the film. Clips were picked up and broadcast by news media in Egypt.

(5,818 posts)4. Thanks. It's astounding how skimpy the media 'feeding frenzy'
is on crucial details like this.

He's an Egyptian-born American. Lawyer. Heads up a Coptic Christian anti-Islamic group. I assume he's extreme RW connected. The filmmaker is an Israeli-American, also RW. Terry Jones is also involved, another RW zealot. Anyone else see the connection?
