Bacile may be a pseudonym, possibly for someone affiliated with the Egyptian Coptic diaspora

Nobody can find a real estate developer named: "Sam Bacile".

But it’s not clear that Bacile is who he claims. Israeli officials said they would not confirm or deny that he is an Israeli citizen, under that or other names.

And there were some hints that Bacile may be a pseudonym, possibly for someone affiliated with the Egyptian Coptic diaspora.

A consultant on the film, Steve Klein, told the AP that Bacile has family members in Egypt. A 2007 interview with Klein, a self-styled terrorism expert and Vietnam vet, mentions his ties to the Copt diaspora community.

Klein’s author biography in a self-published work, “Is Islam compatible with democracy,” states: “With 9/11 2001, I immersed myself with Islam in America; went to every major Mosque in SoCal with Arabic speaking Christians as translators and uncovered useful information about many Mosques being the head quarters of terrorism in America.”

Mediaite cannot find him:

It appears as though there is no official website for Bacile’s film or real estate ventures, and he has seemingly no social media presence.

Who Is "Sam Bacile?"
Post by SARAH POSNER

Both the AP and the Wall Street Journal have reported interviews with Sam Bacile, the man who claims to be a California real estate developer who raised $5 million from Jewish donors to make his obviously lowest-of-low budget, amateurish anti-Islam film.

But before the July 2012 upload of the film trailer to YouTube, under the user name Sam Bacile, you'd be hard pressed to find evidence of the existence a California real estate developer online.
UPDATE by Rosen:
A detail I failed to note earlier this morning from the AP story: "Israeli officials said they had not heard of him and there was no record of him being a citizen. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not permitted to share personal information with the media."

All we know is that there's a trailer on the Internet, which could be made for $50.

Does he even exist? Does this supposed 2-hour film exist? Or only the 14-minute trailer? (No legitimate trailer lasts for 14 minutes.)
If he's a real-estate agent, why doesn't he have a web presence? That would be highly unusual.
Is it a pseudonym?

There's no way I'm going online to watch this disgusting trailer. But from what I've read it's quite primitive. Was $5 million dollars really spent?

I await more information.

9. We have that only on the (phoned in) word of "Mr. Bacile"

From the main source on this whole hiding thing (an AP story):

The full film has been shown once, to a mostly empty theater in Hollywood earlier this year, Mr. Bacile said.

The only news outlet who had this man's name and claimed to have interviewed him before this incident is the Wall Street Journal (home to neocons). They owe everyone an explanation of who he is, whether the interview was in person or by phone, etc.

What We Know About the Obscure Film That Sparked The Deadly Riots in Libya

The violence that claimed the life of Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three of his American staff members yesterday appears to have been sparked by an obscure, anti-Islam film produced by Sam Bacile, an Israeli-American real-estate developer who says his goal was to draw attention to the hypocrisies of Islam.

So, what do we know about Bacile? In short, not much.

A man claiming to be Bacile spoke to a number of international news outlets by phone after going into hiding in the wake of the attacks. As Religion Dispatch's Sarah Posner points out, the man appears to have given a number of conflicting details about himself—including describing himself as 52 years old to the Wall Street Journal and as 56 to the Associated Press—so at the very least there are some doubts about the veracity of the man's claims.

Not a whole lot more is known about his film, Innocence of Muslims, which appears to have been screened only once, to a near empty theater in Hollywood earlier this year. Judging by the 13-minute trailer posted to YouTube in July, the film is supposed to be a "satirical" portrayal of the life of Muhammad. In addition to its criminally low production values, the film also takes care to portray Muhammad as a pedophile-appeasing, bumbling spreader of false doctrine. The offensive Muhammad narrative is interspersed with scenes of bearded men in generic Middle Eastern streets raiding missionary hospitals and threatening and killing young Christian women....

This might give the crazies there an excuse to attack innocent Christians. It could make the situation there much worse.
