I read that you have four houses. Would you be willing to give up some of that . . .?

January 6

A woman stood at a crowded campaign event here and asked Romney to make a personal sacrifice.

“I’m a middle-class American like a lot of people here and we’re all hurting – we really are,” she said. “It’s a little hard for me because I know you’re a multi-millionaire. I read that you have four houses. Would you be willing to give up some of that so that we middle Americans could get some tax cuts?”

At first, Romney seemed a bit befuddled by the question. “That’s a good idea,” he replied, laughing.

But quickly, the former Massachusetts governor made a correction. “Let’s see, well, I don’t have four houses, that’s number one, although it’s a good idea.”

Actually, Romney had four houses the last time he ran for president – in Belmont, Mass., Wolfeboro, N.H., Park City, Utah, and San Diego, Calif. But after the 2008 campaign, he sold the Utah ski home as well as the Belmont mansion where he raised his five sons. He replaced the mansion with a condominium in the same Boston suburb, bringing his property inventory to three.

After clarifying the point, Romney pivoted back to his campaign talking points.

or romney the american job destroyer? I love terms like "down sizing", "right sizing." What it really means is that we need more profit at the expense of communities, families and workers in this country. Or, hey, that company is in the black, let's raid it, strip it and sell it to any foreign entity. Screw the employees, we got ours.

Oh, and romney's tax plan is a real winner, if you're in the one per cent. But, some of us who already are hurting get to pay more. Still, bamboozling the plebes, that we got to give even more moolah to the wealthy because they're going to create jobs. Unfortunately, most of the sociopaths just love them some slaves, so those jobs will usually be in other countries.

Just buy some companies, load them up with debt by giving yourself multi-lmillion dollar bonuses, fire every employee, sell the corporate shell, and you, too, can by a mansion to your liking, or three.

Some people, I swear...

Hereditary wealth, unchecked, was a great fear of some of our nation's founders.

so that *you* might be able to afford a solid gold toilet to take a dump in every morning isn't my problem.

'Nice' doesn't get First Place, 'nice' gets their jobs taken from them so people like Romney can appease his god, Mammon.

How does having Romney give up one, two or three houses equate to giving this woman a tax cut? It was a stupid question, and all he could do was mumble and stumble through it, but I just don't see the connection.

The Repubs went after Sen. Kerry because of his wealth and homes too.

I prefer it when people confront Romney on the issues.

"Would you be willing to give up some of that so that we middle Americans could get some tax cuts?”

It's a reasonable question. You have so much governor, what's the problem with your party accepting a miniscule increase in the taxes you now pay so that the middle class can get a break? Makes sense to me.

I certainly think the tax code could be more fair and balanced. Do you think the wealthy pay too much?

Hell, I'm barely surviving right now. Do you think I should pay more in taxes? I say bullshit.

I think the Bush era tax cuts should end for all. If you are just barely surviving it is not because your taxes are too high. Why don't you let us know how much you make and how much your taxes are?

You'd be more credible if you were for making sure the government is spending it correctly before demanding people give up more of our hard-earned money. Like the spending on war? It's always easy and convenient to rag on workers and act as if we're the reason that the government can't find money for whatever you think it should provide and take responsibility for. It's harder and less popular to actually demand the government spend less. I don't see any of the virtue you pretend here in taking the easy route. It's the height of ignorance and arrogance expecting that I have a dime more to pay the government.

By the way, it's one thing to ask presidential candidates to reveal their income and net worth, it's another to ask strangers on an internet board to bare all for your edification. It's humiliating to even have to argue this. (Damn) you for taking me there. I work a part-time union job and I just came into work last night to a weekly schedule that was slashed in half. Are you really so dense you can't take a clue?

What you post does not identify you. I know the tax tables and I know no one in the "middle class" is hurting because they can't afford the taxes. I know that if post your income and taxes people will see you are not being burdened by those.

her assumption was he might have to pay more and so "sacrafice" a house. of course he wouldn't really have to do that.

but it was her way of asking higher incomes to pay more. and being the piece of shit he is of course he isnt going to.

to sacrifice ... so put something on the line that means something to them and see if they will give it up for the greater good. It's hypothetical but NO they are unwilling to give up a single thing. Sacrifice is for others, not them.
