MI6 chief Sir John Sawers
The head of Britains foreign spying apparatus MI6 has paid a secret visit to the Occupied Palestinian Territories to warn Israeli authorities against attacking Iran, local media reported.
Two week ago, MI6 chief Sir John Sawers visited Israel to deliver a clear message to warmongering Zionist authorities that Britain is opposed to an Israeli adventurism as far as the issue of Irans nuclear energy program is concerned, British media reported.
Recently, Zionist regime authorities have stepped up their rhetoric against the Islamic Republic of Iran, threatening the country with military action to halt its peaceful nuclear energy program.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and its war minister Ehud Barak have been pushing the UK and U.S. to take a tougher line against Iran.

(25,699 posts)Israel is not going to attack Iran without the United States' support.
The united States will not support an attack on Iran, unless Iran strikes first.
Iran will not attack Israel so long as Israel and the US are allied.
Basically a stalemate, one that can only be broken by a change in US policy. Say, the election of a Republican.
If you want the US embroiled in a third southwest Asian land war, if you want a lot of dead iranians and Israelis, then Mitt Romney is he guy who will give you that.

(25,699 posts)It's elements within the Israeli government that want war. Israelis themselves are mostly opposed to the idea. Let's do make the distinction; Israel's government does not serve the interests of the people of Israel.
Besides that however, you're correct. Israel has enough military power to subjugate unruly peasants on its borders, but it wouldn't be able to do anything to Iran (nor could Iran do anything to Israel, really). The United States is the deciding factor here. So long as we maintain a purely defensive alliance with Israel, war will not happen.
