Best homemade mask material per new study..and Quack Dr. Don was WRONG

https://news.yahoo.com/best-coronavirus-face-mask-materials-new-study-120000624.html

President Donald Trump suggested it wouldn’t hurt the public to wear masks, but that scarves could be a perfectly suitable substitute.

It doesn’t have to be a mask. It can be a scarf,” Trump said. “What I do see people doing here is using scarves. And I think in a certain way, depending on the fabric, I think in a certain way, a scarf is better, it’s actually better.”

A new study of the best and worst materials for DIY face masks just proved he was absolutely incorrect.

Amazing the danger all throughout their shifts from close proximity sneezes, coughs, and worse.

All day long. That's hard to imagine for most of us.

We're told large droplets are more dangerous.

This looks at what N95 masks target and compares everything not to what prevents infection but how well they compare to those particular masks.

?? Not to put in mask. I did read to keep a roll in car to hold gas pump with, then throw into the can there. Did dawn on me that garbage cans outside groceries and at gas stations must be loaded with hazardous waste.

Shop towels feel more dense and tightly woven than paper towels. Seems like they would filter out more.

"paper towel for hand drying" -- I think they're distinguishing the typical brown paper towel you find for hand drying (i.e. in public restrooms), as opposed to the general purpose kitchen roll of paper towels, which are more porous.

Related, here's something about shop towels:

to see shop towels so far down on the list. I never thought there was that much difference between public restroom paper towels and paper towels at home, but there’s certainly a wide range of quality available in both markets. Would have been nice if they’d given a more precise description.

...but those brown pull-out hand-drying paper towels you most often see in public restrooms are less "cottony" and absorbent than what you get from the typical kitchen-style general purpose roll.

They're talking about different things to use as masks. So they're talking about using the paper towels to put in masks. The "hand drying" part then, would refer to the type of paper towel to put in the mask. Sounds like they mean the brown pull out ones you find in public restrooms.

although they would be a lot better if layered.

I have a bunch of microfiber towels, but it seems they aren't so hot since the polyester is smooth and doesn't catch all that much.

HEPA filters! I'll see about cutting one up and fitting it into a mask pocket.
