I usually believe that white men in suits are not orchestrating Mideast events. This time, there is a distinct reek of Koch cash. People who don't matter to the important people are being sacrificed for political theatre.

The tinfoil hatters on my FB Newsfeed are muttering that the man who made the anti-Mohammed film who was calling himself "Sam Basile" is actually a Coptic Christian from Egypt, and this whole film was done to give another Egyptian rabble-rouser some ammo to goad the most easily-upset fringe radicals with, and something to give them an excuse to "protest" (read: go bugnuts and riot violently). They haven't gone so far as to say that the rioting was intended to deliberately target the US embassy, but give them time and the dots will get connected.

That Pastor Terry Jones inserted himself into a situation that involves a virulently anti-Muslim propaganda piece is unsurprising. He's a known douche.

this was while the fighting was still going on, and the Libyans weren't able to completely secure the area until 2:30 am.

At 1:00 am the Libyans defending the consulate pulled him unconscious from the building (that must have been a terrible and desperate search) and carried him to a vehicle, where he was rushed to the hospital. They weren't able to revive him and his body was transferred from the hospital to US authorities at the airport. It was a heartbreaking picture...
