It started in Egypt and moved to Libya. Now, overnight, al Qaeda supporters have stormed the embassy in Yemen. Are these spontaneous events?
Reportedly, the second in command of Al Qaeda in Yemen was killed a couple of days ago. Does that have anything to do with storming of the embassy in Yemen? Was it just an opportunistic moment for the few fanatics still hanging on?
Or were these coordinated attacks? And who was behind them and who organized them?
I'm sure there are a lot of questions being asked at the State Dept this morning? How safe are the Embassy personnel in these unstable countries? If the leaders of these countries cannot guarantee their safety, should they be withdrawn, along with any foreign aid they may be receiving?
What other options do we have?

(32,595 posts)you may want to watch Rachel Maddow's show from last night. She did the best piece I have seen providing the background and context for insurgent activity.

(10,479 posts)started and wondered how things could accelerate so quickly. When Romney came out almost immediately after we heard about the Libyian incident I wondered if this was a well-laid plan by someone in the Republican party. I realize I sound paranoid half the time, but this whole thing came off quickly and stays in the news. And this so-called movie was evidently planned some time ago. Whoever produced it knew what would happen. Was Romney just waiting to come out on stage and start blaming Obama? Did he jump the gun? I can't get it out of my mind that it was staged.

However, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if folks were paid to make a bigger deal out of this then they normally would.

Protesting is also a very empowering feeling and these people have not known much empowerment in their lives. Mobs are ugly by definition and you never know what will happen after one forms.

(51,277 posts)Maybe, if we could just treat other people as human beings with the right to choose their own destinies and to hold their own religious views instead of flying armed drones over their heads and attempting to build our own empire, things like this wouldn't occur.
