The Postal Service is self supporting but mandated not to turn a profit

The Postal Service is fully self supporting financially but mandated not to turn a profit Trump should therefore be prohibited from requiring them to arbitrarily raise prices above profit levels.

It’s an essential service of the country. Just like defense. Don’t fall for this nonsense. Every time something has been “privatized”, it’s gotten more expensive and far shittier.

Trump’s new efforts to kill the Postal Service by making them noncompetitive is not possible.

What it would even do to prices. I was surprised by the numbers but I’m no accountant.

[link: https://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2018/pr18_093.htm|]

Here’s some numbers. Columns are 2018 and 2017

Operating revenue $70,622 $69,593
Total operating expenses $74,445 $72,210

That’s 70 billion a year.

They breakdown numbers that look like they could be related to the 75 year bs. Unfunded liabilities. Controllable losses of 1.9 billion.

I know the post office has rules about raising prices and maybe the pension/healthcare thing wasn’t allowed to be factored into pricing, but would it just be a 10% price rise to cover the total loss?

Like I say I’m no accountant but if the post office was allowed to charge enough to break even how much would postage go up?

Oh but the problem right now is revenue nose dived? Yeah but we spent 2 trillion bailing out big corporations. 300 billion went to large restaurant corporations like ruth steak.

The post office runs on 70 billion a year and is a vital national security asset and interest.

The pentagon runs on 700 billion dollars a year.

Out of that 2.7 trillion it is insane to talk about losing the post office. It is treasonous to close the post office.

Corrections welcome
