VA and hydroxychloroquine

I am waiting for this to blow up. It passed by on the lower right side of the CNN page at 4 a.m. last night. It's not blowing up yet. Will it?

3. The VA is under Trump's command. They're not kissing his ass

IMHO. We’ve seen what happens to whistleblowers vs. criminals.

Trump’s administration has included hydroxychloroquine in the VA protocol and that’s what needs to be exposed.

5. I'm sorry

But everything I've read about this drug,
except here on DU, says it's a valid
and life saving product.

Why is everyone here so against it?

Every drug has a potential down side but
I just don't understand the near
hatred of this drug here.

8. FDA, for one

https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-cautions-against-use-hydroxychloroquine-or-chloroquine-covid-19-outside-hospital-setting-or

+ the fact that Trump has financial interest in company that produces it.

I just did a basic Google search on it to see if I'd missed something based on your post. Fine for malaria! Fine for arthritis! In original article I posted, it cites death rate as higher in those who are using it for COVID-19.

Where have you heard the contrary?

13. The jury is still out

Here's a good (and recent) video summarizing what is currently known, starting at the 5:45 mark:

And yes, unfortunately like everything else Trump has managed to politicize medicine, which is why I suspect many people are projecting their political biases onto the drug. In the meantime we'll have to wait for the results of proper clinical trials involving the chloroquines and other drugs being paired with them. There are many other drugs being tried, hopefully there will be some encouraging clinical results soon (the sooner the better). Here's another video where a New York doctor gives his opinion on the potential of current drugs:

A little disappointed he didn't discuss Avigan (favipiravir), but its availability is limited at this time.

6. A Veteran Has The Right

to refuse any procedure or drug they don't want.
I'm always amazed by vets who don't know their patient rights.

9. Not In My Experience

The VA goes way out of their way for me.
If I need a specialist they find one. They will send me
to DoD hospitals if they don't have the equipment locally.
When you know your rights and exercise them, they tend to listen.
I can't say enough good things about the VA system in NorCal.

11. Not Just My Experience

Oct 7, 2019 - The survey, which asked Veterans about their experience with VA health care since the MISSION Act was implemented, found that more than 80% were satisfied with their VA health care. Nearly 75% of Veteran respondents reported improvements at their local VA, and more than 90% would recommend VA care to fellow Veterans.
