A Tavares police officer has found herself under investigation by her department and maybe the U.S. Secret Service after allegedly posting a Facebook comment about the whereabouts of well-known presidential assassins during President Barack Obama's acceptance speech Thursday at the Democratic National Convention.
According to a copy of the posting on the social website by officer Sarah Coursey, it was made about 10:10 p.m. -- about 10 minutes into Obama's live speech at the Charlotte N.C. convention.
"Where's Lee Harvey Oswald or John Wilkes Booth when you need them!?!? ", according to the posting, referring to the assassins of presidents John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln.
Coursey was placed on paid administrative leave pending completion of an internal Tavares police investigation, according to Joyce Ross, a spokeswoman for the city of Tavares.
"We feel it was totally inappropriate," said Ross of officers who are supposed to protect and serve. "We hold police officers to pretty high standards."
About 25 minutes after the posting, it had received 25 comments, including 16 thumbs up, according to a copy of it.
Tavares officials said Friday they were alerted to the posting by an email from a "citizen." According to a copy of the email sent to the police chief, which included a copy of the Facebook posting, the writer stated "At the start of DNC. Horrible thing to say."

(2,419 posts)It's a job application. She's no doubt angling for a spot in the Praetorian Guard for Romney regime. She's just showing the depth of her devotion.
Seriously though, there's legitimate political partisanship and then there's the collection of nut jobs that passes for the modern day republican party.

(37,573 posts)to object to distasteful, hateful comments, by making a distasteful, hateful comment yourself?
Logically, you have just stated "that SOME hateful, distasteful comments are justified".
That begs the question - which ones?
If it is justified to call for the death of those who give thumbs up to a distasteful, hateful comment,
then how can it not be okay to make a tasteless joke about the death of somebody who is destroying America, turning it into a communist country?
Presumably you don't really think people should "eat excrement and die" just for laughing at a tasteless joke.
Or do you?

INAPPROPRIATE? That's being far too charitable.
A comment like that from a police officer?

(21,506 posts)I have friend that I used to just love and her facebook postings have shown me what a sad misguided person she is to the point that I cant even stand to talk to her anymore.
I am not sure that is a good thing but it is what it is.
I stay as far away from facebook as I can but every once in a while I take a peek and every single time I do I am appalled at someones post.

(47,399 posts)such a thing, but how stupid do you have to be to attach your name to such a statement on a social networking site? I can't believe how brazen and outspoken the bigots and haters have become the past four years, as if there are no consequences for their words.
I think the words and actions of a lot of our political leaders have given people like this permission to do and say things that were previously unacceptable.

A cop posted this, does she work for the Geheime Staatspolizei?
I hope she enjoys her visit from the Secret Service.
The stupid, it burns.

(3,845 posts)Beyond any reasonable doubt it was a CIA operation and Oswald was, as he said, "just a patsy". Just finished reading JFK and the Unspeakable by James Douglass. Please read if you don't know this.
President Obama is likely safe; he seems to know the truth about JFK given the way he has gone along with everything the national security state / military-industrial complex wants in contrast to Kennedy, who defied them and died for it.
