Police: Man used stolen trailers to build 'Doomsday bunker'
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -
Police dug up a stolen food truck and a stolen trailer in the yard of a Kissimmee man who was using them to build a "Doomsday bunker," according to authorities.
The trailers were found Tuesday buried in the back yard of a home near Eola Drive and Manor Drive in Kissimmee.
The man, whose name has not been released, said he didn't know when the world was going to end, but he wanted to prepare for it, according to Kissimmee police.
The man's neighbors say they noticed something was going on when he was digging a hole in his yard with a backhoe.
"I called the city because I was afraid he would flood my yard," said neighbor Betty Ryan. "I thought he was digging a pool. And he goes, 'I'm digging a fish pond, just a little fish pond.'"
Police said at least two trailers had been reported missing in the area and an investigation led them to the house. Under the ground, they found the stolen trailer and truck, along with a third trailer.
Neighbors told Local 6 the police investigation has made them uneasy.
