In the I have a Dream speech MLK refers to our national creed that all men are created equal.

But a key meaning of creed (and arguably the primary meaning of creed) is a religious term, and specifically Christian.

When people used to say not discrimination based on "race, creed or religion" creed signified differences within the larger religion of Christianity. Baptist versus Catholic, etc.
