Now we're talking! "Operation Warp Speed"

Project targets enough doses for most Americans by January
Fauci has said vaccine will take 12 to 18 months to develop

The Trump administration is organizing a Manhattan Project-style effort to drastically cut the time needed to develop a coronavirus vaccine, with a goal of making enough doses for most Americans by year’s end.

Called “Operation Warp Speed,” the program will pull together private pharmaceutical companies, government agencies and the military to try to cut the development time for a vaccine by as much as eight months, according to two people familiar with the matter.

As part of the arrangement, taxpayers will shoulder much of the financial risk that vaccine candidates may fail, instead of drug companies.

The project will cost billions of dollars, one of the people said. And it will almost certainly result in significant waste by making inoculations at scale before knowing if they’ll be safe and effective -- meaning that vaccines that fail will be useless. But it could mean having doses of vaccine available for the American public by the end of this year, instead of by next summer.

That DOES take years. That's why I am certain that this administration will screw it up and kill people in the process.

it will tamp down symptoms much like HIV anti viral meds...and you're right...they will screw it up big time...they will deny those they deem unworthy the so-called vaccine..and in the process harm/kill the first wave of guinea pigs

They won't take the risk of a huge expense if there's no verified business case for it.

I wouldn't either. If you want my company to do something like that, pay me to do it. Otherwise, I'll invest where there is a verified business case for it.

Basically, I think the full-scale manufacturing is to be done in parallel with the testing. If the result of the trials is that it's good, there will be doses available for the public right away. If it's not efficacious, the material already manufactured will be trash and the money spent manufacturing it wasted.

Literally buying time, paying for the manufacture of commercial scale quantities of the candidate vaccine "at risk" before completion of the efficacy trial.

We need to develop a vaccine and effective treatment. I don't mind clearing obstacles or high costs, even if taxpayers are involved. The problem I have with the proposals are that Trump and his administration do not have a plan and their goal is rarely the benefit of the American people. If we do this "warp speed" thing, there have to be CLEAR rules that the product is for the benefit of the people and the property of the people. There should not be any profit for private companies and the vaccine should be "paid for" meaning that the tax dollars we invested should make the vaccine completely free to all of us.
