Conflicting partisan polls in Missouri's U.S. Senate, presidential races

"It's that time of the year for polls that tell us nothing and everything at the same time.

A poll released this week from Republican-leaning Rasmussen Reports shows Democrat Claire McCaskill leading Republican Todd Akin by six points. A previous Rasmussen poll showed McCaskill with a ten point point lead.

Today, Politico reports a poll commissioned by conservative group Citizens United shows Akin with about a five point lead. That poll was conducted by Wenzel Strategies, which previously showed Akin with a three point lead, even as almost every other poll showed Akin trailing McCaskill after his controversial comments on rape and abortion.

A Post-Dispatch/News 4 poll released on Aug. 26 showed McCaskill leading Akin by nine points.

Rasmussen on Thursday said its recent poll showed Romney with a three point advantage in Missouri. Their last poll showed Obama with a one point lead. "
