She spat on him and then a male pulled a gun and shot him in the head, killing him. Absolutely horrifying.

That should count as at least assault, if not battery. No one puts a hand on me without my permission. No one uses me as a tissue ever.

Scream RAPE or as they used to tell us FIRE since that would get a better response than a cry of rape would. But scream loudly and repeatedly until there is a reaction and the turd that used me as his wiping rag is apprehended.

I decided long ago that if someone laid a hand on me or assaulted me in any way, I would scream. I am not big enough and anymore not strong enough to fight in retaliation. Besides, then there would be the confusion as to who started a confrontation. But if I am screaming as if I were being harmed, without any physical reaction from me, it would be clear who was at fault.

ETA - In Florida, assault is being verbally attacked, battery is an actual physical attack.

I would stand there and scream for security as loud and as long as I could. What's the worst that could happen? People will look at me? Management, witnesses, and security would come running over? That's a winning outcome for me.

“ Scream RAPE or as they used to tell us FIRE“

You’d make the court case extremely difficult. Especially if you continue the lie with security staff or law enforcement.

Screaming “help” is far less complicated and doesn’t need any explanation or walking back.

But FIRE does, or did back then.

I believe it is called the Kitty Genovese or Bystander Effect. Unless an event will affect people personally, if there are other witnesses, they don't response to a need for help. A fire will affect everyone in the vicinity while a call for help or rape does not threaten someone who does not respond.

Bystander Effect

What Is the Bystander Effect?

The bystander effect occurs when the presence of others discourages an individual from intervening in an emergency situation. The greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is for any one of them to provide help to a person in distress. People are more likely to take action in a crisis when there are few or no other witnesses present.

Social psychologists Bibb Latané and John Darley popularized the concept of the bystander effect following the infamous murder of Kitty Genovese in New York City in 1964. The 28-year-old woman was stabbed to death outside her apartment, neighbors failed to step in to assist or call the police. Latané and Darley attributed the bystander effect to the perceived diffusion of responsibility (onlookers are less likely to intervene if there are other witnesses who seem likely to do so) and social influence (individuals monitor the behavior of those around them to determine how to act).

How To Be An Active Bystander

The social and behavioral paralysis described by the bystander effect can be reduced with awareness and in some cases explicit training. Secondary schools and college campuses encourage students to speak up when witnessing an act of bullying or a potential assault. One technique is to act as if one is the first or only person witnessing a problem. Often when one person take action, if only to shout, "Hey what's going on?" or "The police are coming," others may be emboldened to take action as well. That said, an active bystander is most effective when they assume that they themselves are the sole person taking charge; giving direction to other bystanders to assist can therefore be critically important.

While some recent studies in other countries show a different crowd psychologies outside of the USA, at the time I took the self defense course in the 1970s, this WAS the advice given women.

Had he done it to me, and he wouldn’t have, he would be wiping blood from his nose. And other parts of his head.

Where the republicans get the idea that liberal are meek is beyond me. I guess because we are educated and don’t walk around with our guns. Which many of us own.

I worked in quality control.

Over about the last year at that factory, management kept hiring felons. (I’m not sure why that apparent policy shift happened, but I know they previously struggled to find new employees AND Ohio offers some kind of tax break for hiring former prisoners.)

ALL of them were white, racist and supported Trump. (One guy had an “HH” tattoo, for “Heil Hitler”.)

I was like the “quality cop” on my shift, repeatedly finding problems with THEIR work in particular, so they pretty much hated me.

One of them coughed in my face “as a joke” after I tried to warn people that Coronavirus would become a serious problem in this country, despite what Trump was saying.

Decided to leave that job soon thereafter. It wasn’t just that cough experience, but lots of things “going to shit” there.

Anyway, it wouldn’t totally surprise me if this Dollar Tree thug had a previous record of some kind. I hope they catch the asshole!
