WKYC - A Cleveland, Ohio woman has been cited by police after being caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to avoid stopping for a Cleveland school bus.
The bus stops each day on East 38th Street to pick up a wheelchair bound student.
Witnesses notified police after watching the woman drive onto the sidewalk on more than one occasion to avoid the bus which was stopped with its stop sign and flashing lights activated.
Parents were outraged over the driver's actions and her disregard for children or any other pedestrians that could be using the sidewalk.

(441 posts)Other motorists (and bicyclists) can be unbelievably selfish, and will do incredible stupid things which endanger the kids, all because they think they are too good to wait for the bus to finish loading and move on.
Come on! The bus is at the same locations, at about the same time, every day. Don't want to wait for the school bus? Find another way to go, morans!

(13,421 posts)I've talked about that here at DU before. Locally, the "thing" seems to be walking down the middle of the street with two perfectly smooth, clear sidewalks on either side. If you pull up in your car they stop and stare at you, and if you dare to honk they scream obscenities at you. This is not kids, I sat there the other day while two 30-40 year old women strolled out of the middle of the street while shooting me death glares.
I'm not saying that the woman in Cleveland was right in any way, but I wish to hell the police would consider issuing tickets for jaywalking just like they'd be happy to issue me a ticket if I drove on the damn sidewalk.
Pisses me off, if you want the truth.

Tijuana? (I confess I did a few stunts behind the wheel of an emergency vehicle that were in that territory... oh the cops knew, in a few cases they cleared the sidewalk for me)
