(3,014 posts)I could go on for hours about all the great moments in my long life here in Colorado where Lookout Mountain played, at the very least, a bit part.
And some of those stories are real humdingers.

(3,014 posts)That's part of the foothills. The mountains are right behind it (to the West)....but don't let the name "Lookout Mountain" fool ya.
Here in Colorado...that's merely a "hill".

(5,376 posts)to visit Buffalo Bill's grave. Then we'd come down the side where the road was steep, windy and scary. Daddy got such a kick out of the reaction from the "flatlanders" along for the ride. Wow, that was over 50 years ago, but the memories linger. RIP, Daddy!

(9,753 posts)Especially in key states, we're in trouble.
Of course, by November 6, Romney will have alienated about 75% of the electorate and his base will be too embarassed to show up at the polls.
HOWEVER, we can't let what looks like a hopeful outcome depress progressive turnout because everyone thinks it's in the bag, for the following reasons:
1. An unexpected surge from the right
2. Republican vote-count fraud
3. Downticket races.
Those downticket races are very, very, very important if we're to give Obama the tools he needs in his second term.

I lived in Golden about 25 years ago, and the School of Mines had some kind of geology museum, if I recall correctly. My children were very young, the Golden library was wonderful, and it was a sweet time in my life.

(2,431 posts)The old conservatives are frightened because they can see their outmoded, obsolete, sexist, racist, ersatz caste-system slipping away and, because they have nothing real to contribute to society, they are going to use all of their resources to prolong their cynical, privileged way of life.
They are capable of authorizing tactics nobody with a soul would even consider employing; when it becomes clear to them that lying, cheating and violating the US Constitution with pay-to-vote laws won't work, they have plenty of fearful, ignorant people to get aggressive on their behalf.
If they can't discourage you from voting, they will try and prevent you from voting because this one's for the whole ball-game.
Don't let people you are better than push you around.

(9,895 posts)socialist policies and government takeover of the universe, there would have been people streaming over those mountains to join his movement....see, NO ONE likes him at all... (<<<sarcasm off btw>>>
That reminds me of the St. Louis rally in 2008 that drew over 100,000 people to the Gateway Arch...I remember fools from the McCain-Palin campaign trying to play down that crowd too. Its all so transparent and stupid on the part of the shrinking and whithering (literally and figuratively) Republican Party. What I really love about this election is that they KNOW this is the swan song for the "Southern Strategy"/Old-white guy Republican Party as a viable entity...and they see it swirling the toilet now and are ALREADY in full freak-out mode. The days after the election should be priceless...

(6,539 posts)What an awesome picture! Once again, we see that Obama has a special place in the hearts of Coloradoans!
As freshman, Colorado School of Mines students climb that mountain, Mount Zion, carrying a ten pound rock. They place the rock on the "M" which is visible in the picture. Then they "whitewash" the "M" getting most of it on themselves. Great fun!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_school_of_mines#M-Climb
You can bicycle up the road which is also visible in the picture. The road leads to the top of an adjacent mountain, Lookout Mountain, which has fantastic views of Denver--looking right down Colfax Avenue toward Kansas!
