Trump 'glum and shell-shocked' as coronavirus pandemic cripples his re-election efforts

“Some of Trump’s advisers described the president as glum and shell-shocked by his declining popularity. In private conversations, he has struggled to process how his fortunes suddenly changed from believing he was on a glide path to reelection to realizing that he is losing to the likely Democratic nominee, former vice president Joe Biden, in virtually every poll, including his own campaign’s internal surveys, advisers said,” the report states. “He also has been fretting about the possibility that a bad outbreak of the virus this fall could damage his standing in the November election, said the advisers, who along with other aides and allies requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.”

With that in mind, the president is hoping to rev up his MAGA rallies as soon as possible in an effort to rally his base.

“The president is also eager to resume political travel in June, including holding his signature rallies by the end of the summer in areas where there are few cases, advisers said. Trump’s political team has begun discussions about organizing a high-dollar, in-person fundraiser next month, as well as preliminary planning about staging rallies and what sort of screenings might be necessary, according to Republican National Committee officials and outsider advisers,” the report adds. One option being considered is holding rallies outdoors, rather than in enclosed arenas, a senior administration official said.”

Emphasis mine

The petulant man baby is planning to risk covid spread at his MAGA rallies, because he craves the attention and of course he thinks this will see him through in November. Heh. I can see how that will back fire. Open up the rallies in places with few cases (if there is any such place any time soon) and that local community will be a hotspot in a hot minute. And the only determining factor for the virus showing up in numbers is that a MAGA rally took place? Trump spreading the virus and killing people, literally, not a good look for re- election prospects me thinks.

unpopular and to boot, an extremely inept president at that (except for a few diehards (pun wasn't intended at first, but after I typed it, I thought about it, and said, yeah, include it)).

His die hard supporters will continue to show up (those that he or his cronies paid for to attend), and thus, will continue to die for his idiotic and misguided belief that he's popular, etc.

Kind of sad and pathetic that he's more concerned about his popularity vs. the CV deaths and illnesses impacting this Country. People won't forget this (his pathetic and childish behavior).

In an alternate reality where the pandemic never occurred, he might very well have won re-election. Economy was doing well (on paper, if not in practice), unemployment was down, stock market was up... those are all powerful factors working in favor of an incumbent. None of them had a damn thing to do with Trump's "leadership," of course, but rightly or wrongly, the electorate credits/blames the President for the state of the economy in the moment.

With the economy in tatters and facing the worst situation since the Great Depression, and with Covid-19 running rampant due to Dolt 45's utter failure in leadership... his prospects for a second term are not good. However, they're not zero, either. Assuming that his goose is cooked and that Biden will win with ease is a bad idea, in my opinion.

Even though he never deserved re-election (let alone election), the power of incumbency likely would have carried him through.

If by some miracle he'd risen to the challenge and handled it really well, his re-election would be almost guaranteed, I think. Of course, he's Trump, so handling anything well is not in his wheelhouse.

I think he might have been in halfway decent shape even with the job he's done... if he hadn't minimized it, claimed we had "tremendous control" of it early on, called it a hoax, proposed cockamamie remedies, etc. By downplaying it as much as he did, he screwed himself bigtime.

People can forgive a President for being wrong, but it's a hell of a lot harder to forgive a President for being that drastically wrong. Or, as in this case, for deliberately obfuscating and misleading the public regarding the true threat the virus posed.

Trumps intentionally making it all worse, and causing the spread of this virus to increase, and with pence too. Neither wear masks, or follow CDC guidelines, and watch what trump starts doing soon. He'll shut down reporting numbers to hide his failure with this virus, then claim it's great again, and all because of him. The truth will be the opposite showing more people he's nothing but a serial liar and a corrupt treasonous criminal working for Putin because he's broke and in deep debt to him. A lightly attended rally is not something Trump wants to see. so it robs him of his #1 campaign tool.

May 2020

He's simply delusional and luckily his own worst enemy.

But he could have been on a glide path to reelection, if he's listened to experts back in Dec. / Jan. and championed a competent response to Covid-19. From a purely political standpoint, the virus could have been a god send for his reelection chances. America deals with the virus in a science based, effective manner like some of our East Asian allies, while Europe and China burn. All of his past boorishness and stupidity would have been forgotten in the minds of many. But thankfully, no. He stayed true to form and caused a disaster of biblical proportions that will burn into the Fall and beyond, killing who knows how many Americans and completely destroying even the remote chances he had for reelection.

His polling looks awful now even by his own standards, and that's driven just by the daily news. Wait until the Dem election machine hits full steam and all that stored political ammunition gathered over the last 4 years, now leavened with the pandemic, is unleashed. He will lash out in his usual self destructive, idiotic manner, making the impact even worse. If anything, he's consistently stupid.

But for we Dems, this is no time to let off the accelerator. It's time to redouble and triple our efforts. This is a take no prisoners, all is fair, fight to the death and he must be completely destroyed. Not just in the swing states, but everywhere. And not just to take the White House and the Senate, but to crush his brand of populist fascism and destroy the Republican party for at least a generation. My hope is this is the beginning of the end of modern Republicans and in the coming years the party becomes a footnote in history.

I would only add one thing - I hope this destroys the Trumps (all of them) for once and for all, together with the careers of their enablers.

Resume the MAGA rallies ASAP with his voting base crammed into crowded venues (no PPE masks, of course).

This unintentional form of voter suppression is called KARMA.

Screen everyone coming in, though.

Be sure everyone is a 100% DIE hard Trump fan.

Who from drump's inner circle is providing this info and why?

I think it's a method of distracting us so that we don't push for election security, voting rights, and multiple safe methods of hassle-free voting (including vote by mail).

The signs and red flags are clear: He is already projecting on to Democrats his plans to cheat. He is protected by the most corrupt attorney general in modern history, which guarantees he will get away with anything he does. But he's not just relying on putin. Now we've seen drump openly call for a state to nullify election results. What will republican governors do when he calls for votes to be ignored this fall? States are allowed to ignore the popular vote and select a candidate. It turns out our Constitution is a mess, full of loopholes

He will declare the election is rigged. He set that up last time thinking he would lose and didn't have to use it. This time he will. He has the supreme court just like bush did. We can get in the streets and protest just like we did in 2000. The difference is this time ,the armed thugs will come out in force. The armed lockdown protest are just a trial run for post election day. Remember when Capital Hill Republican staffers stopped the legal vote counting in Florida in 2000. What they are planning for 2020 will make that look like child's play. We can talk polls and races but the fact is he is going nowhere and there is no way to get him out when he goes that route. Democracy is really in danger folks and we need to start thinking about this possibility.

I want to see MAGAts falling over each other. I want to see them hugging and kissing each other over their great leader's perfect response to the corona virus. I'm talking BIGLY RALLIES, with tens of thousands of howling MAGAts at each one!

Then I want Joe Biden's supporters to vote by mail, or social distance voting in person with all available PPE in use. That would be a fitting conclusion to corona virus discussion in politics.

if he and his administration had actually taken steps real steps to combat CV 19 way back in January. But, he and his whole administration are so incompetent, in every department, that they were too stupid to recognize what their denials were going to cause.

Now they can’t even pivot to correcting all their dumb moves to make a difference and are just doubling down on their stupidity.

80,000 now dead and closing in on 100,000 dead and 1.5 million cases.

And it is all on Donny, Fox News, and their acolytes. And don't forget
another great depression. So much winning. So big of a hoax.

From a Trump Tweet this am. "We are getting great marks for the handling of the CoronaVirus pandemic ... "

What a fool. I hope he gets infected if he's not already. That's a hard lesson, but one he needs to learn.

Problem is, if he lives through it, he'll likely be more arrogant than ever, thinking he's god's chosen one, like the evangelicals have been telling him.

Lesser known is that the Lord has a sense of humor. "When we make plans, the Lord laughs" is our go-to when chaos breaks out around here.

Chump's ratings up. Stock market up. Immigration down. Oil prices down. Impeachment incomplete. All things were heading in Chump's favor 'til the Big Guy upstairs chuckled and said "Not so fast, buddy!" BAM! He sends COVID to slam on the brakes.
