(34,060 posts)We have learned that lesson over and over in Kansas then the party reconstitutes and 2/3 of the state is left out of the conversation again. It has been proven over and over again but they never learn for long. The party partiers are much happier staying away from those people. I am one of those people. Every group I have been in that has been successful will cross over that Salina mark and head West. It started after Howard Dean did the 50 state program. You would think we would have learned our lesson but not really. Laura did and that is why she is governor. The party? Not so much.

(2,227 posts)Our rural/country folk don't want to be fed a line, 'cause they will recognize it before you get to the second sentence.
Real talk, about real problems will win many over.
Yes, for many, hate is the key ingredient, and THEY will never be reached. Don't waste your time, energy, or breath.
But there are others who aren't on the hate wagon. They feel ignored, left out, because they have been. They just want to be seen as being relevant, part of the big picture, needing THEIR problems to also be recognized. They aren't expecting miracles, just help and concern. For THOSE, dump the condescension in favor of real truth, on their level, not from someone looking down at them.
We sure as hell have nothing to lose.
Love me some liberal redneck!

(41,055 posts)best- selling book by venture capitalist and Trump supporter JD Vance that was released right after the election and hailed by both political parties and the literary world as a huge success. The widely held conclusion was that Hillbilly southerners, aka the 'white underclass' were responsible for Trump's election.
Add to that the ugly stereotypes and damage done by the adaptation of author James Dickey's novel in the movie 'Deliverance' (1972) that persist today, 45 years later.
It's difficult to try to overturn views and biases that are entrenched for decades and welcomed by some as a way to avoid any effort to help or relate to rural communities.
Along with the issues you listed, rural people also have a stake in another immense subject that should be an appeal, the environment and conservation. But the years that could have been used to reach out to this demographic have been lost and divisions in this country are setting in fast.
Best of luck Liberal Redneck, the points you make are great and your intentions well meant.

(797 posts)That three of the last four Democratic Presidents have been from the south.
It would also seem that this fellow should be more aware of all the bills and solutions Democrats have provided that have been roundly rejected by those Republican representatives that this bloc of voters choose based on social issues that have not changed for the largest percentage of said voting bloc.
