Sailors on sidelined USS Theodore Roosevelt get virus for second time

The aircraft carrier has been at port in Guam since late March after the outbreak of the virus was discovered.

WASHINGTON — Five sailors on the U.S. aircraft carrier sidelined in Guam due to a COVID-19 outbreak have tested positive for the virus for the second time and have been taken off the ship, according to the Navy.

The resurgence of the virus in the five sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt underscores the befuddling behavior of the highly contagious virus and raises questions about how troops that test positive can be reintegrated into the military, particularly on ship.

They may have tested positive a second time. That doesn’t mean that they’re sick a second time.

The remnants of dead virus cause a positive test result also.

There have been reports in other countries, as well, of people getting sick a second time, and dying as a result of the second infection.

Don't ask for a link. I read it on DU way back weeks ago.

Positive test results? Yes. Sick a second time? No. (Unless you are talking about how it can go into a lull for a few days and come back in a more severe form; that was established in China. But not sick, gone for weeks, then back and dying.

People aren’t getting sick again with COVID-19, they are testing positive again. Some estimates are a 30% false positive rate.

And if so is it as bad as the first time? And of course, can they transmit the virus. I’d think that would be the case.

South Korea proved that people were not getting the virus a second time, they hadn’t yet cleared out their original infection.

If this is true it runs counter to what all other medical experts have found. Earlier cases of reinfection referenced above have been debunked.
