Family rejoices as Jakadrien Turner arrives from Colombia (15yo US girl who was deported by ICE)

http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/Family-rejoyces-as--136863353.html

D/FW AIRPORT - A little before 10 p.m. Friday night, Jakadrien Turner walked out of a terminal at D/FW International Airport smiling and huddled with her family, surrounded by a horde of media.

She arrived at about 6:45 p.m. Friday from Atlanta, where she changed planes after leaving Colombia Friday morning. When her Delta flight landed, she was escorted off of the tarmac by police and taken to a secluded location. She was questioned for nearly three hours by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and state officials.

Meanwhile, her mother and grandmother arrived to greet her, carrying something that would comfort her.

<snip>

"They want to get their daughter home, they want their daughter to be able to get some rest, they want to reunite the family," Jackson said. "That's the purpose of this day. They're very happy that we were able to get them home."

Good outcome for Jakadrien who looks like she comes from a loving and stable family, all internet rumors to the contrary. Video at the link.

More video located here of tearful reunion: http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/Jakadrien-Turner-is-reunited-with-her-family-136861228.html

I am beginning to think that no matter what her home life was/is/will be, most of the people commenting this story on various boards will never care. They've got a narrative in their heads and that is that. She lied, it's her fault, no one else is responsible for her troubles but herself and never mind that the immigration officials of two countries couldn't sort out this child's lie. And the county of Harris before that (or was is the city of Houston?). They just don't care. Oh, and maybe they all cooked this up so as to have grounds to sue for a big payout. I wonder if they planned her statutory rape as well? I did try to point out over at Hufffington Post that if the same thing had happened to a white girl who said her name was Siobhan something and she was an 18 year old here illegally from Ireland when she was actually 14 year old Jennifer Doe born in Dayton, Ohio they would have fallen all over themselves to blame ICE and the immigration idiots from Ireland for deporting her, but that post didn't make it onto the board for some reason. Strange.

Mentally, I've been comparing it to the Elizabeth Smart case, although that isn't exactly parallel. But when she was found, I don't remember loud cries of "Well, she must have wanted to be with this older guy and must have hated her family, so that's why she never said anything to save herself", etc.

People wrote terrible things about her, her father was accused of all kinds of terrible things, that she wasn't really kidnapped at all, she was pregnant and that would not be tolerated within that religion, they were secretly polygamists, her uncles were involved somehow, I don't remember all of it. I just wondered how those people felt about the terrible things they wrote on various boards after the facts came out. No, Elizabeth was not spared in the blog-o-sphere, I can promise you that.

I am also tired of people calling her 30-year-old rapist and user her boyfriend.

Every single person who was involved in this fiasco, from the first person who spoke to her right up to the person who signed that deportation order. I cannot understand why the girl's lie is the story with people instead of how inept ICE and immigration officials from Colombia are. I would never have been taken in by this girls' lie because I've got too much experience in having teenage girls lie to me, but if I had been, I'd feel like the world's biggest idiot. I would like to know how these nameless people have been feeling since this came to light. I would quit before they fired me so I didn't get my ass handed to me publicly. I want names, and a lawsuit will bring those out. I cannot wait.

NO, I cannot. Let ME spell it out for YOU. So what she lied? Kids lie all the time. The issue is that these professionals couldn't work it out that she wasn't Colombian, including the Colombian official who gave her a passport or something to get her into Colombia. So all any of us has to do is commit a misdemeanor crime, get arrested and then claim we are here illegally, and personally I'd say I was French cause I speak a little French, go to ICE detention for a bit, have both ICE and officials from France sign off on it, and I'm on a flight to Paris. Man, that sounds like a plan to me! And I'm a way better liar than a 14 year old girl, cause I used to be a 14 year old girl, and I'm sure I've gotten better over the years. Don't you get how utterly inept these people have shown themselves to be? I understand they ran the name she gave them and came up with nothing. And how come the Colombian official didn't question her about who her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles are, where she was born, when and how she came to the U.S., you know, facts? Not to mention that if she had a physical exam a doctor should have know she was a young teenager and not a woman of 20+ years. She doesn't have her wisdom teeth. Don't people over 20 usually have their wisdom teeth? I had had all of mine removed by the time I was 21. Come on, they got bamboozled by a child and it's the child's fault? So ICE and Colombian immigration have no part in this, it's completely this teenager's fault? I do feel sorry for you, that your outlook is so myopic that you cannot see the bigger picture. Homeland Security is being run by people who can be fooled by teenage children. I personally think that is very scary.

Try not to steal the identity of a fugitive.

EDIT: Not true. She was deported for committing a crime, and claiming to be Colombian. She did not falsely claim to be another person, she falsely claimed another citizenship.

Hence, her deportation, because that real person was wanted in Columbia.

EDIT: This is false. She claimed to be Columbian when she committed a crime, which is why she was deported.

According to ICE, the false name was a fabrication:

According to U.S. immigration officials, they'd never come across anyone by the name Tika Cortez. Her fingerprints did not match anyone in law enforcement databases, nor was there a match for the name Jakadrien Turner. And the background check "revealed no information to invalidate her claims," the officials said.

No one seems to be getting past the lie of a child. Everything else is unimportant, including the fake name that came up as no one. I don't even think they found such a person in Colombia, which makes all this even more strange that the official from Colombia gave her documents to get into the country. I have my own theory as to why the Colombian did this, but it's a scary one. Anyway, she was "repatriated", given a job, and I assume a place to live, but she had no family whatsoever, and I would like to know what hometown she gave them, or was she smart enough to just say Bogota? She hasn't had much education, I mean how could she if she ran away at 13? How would she know the capital? I think she was coached by someone who gave her enough information about Colombia to get her into the country for nefarious reasons. She was to be used as a mule, IMO. This is just hypothetical on my part, but if that was the plan, I'm really glad they found out who she was and took her into protective custody before someone made her do this terribly dangerous thing.

I think I've posted my final thoughts on this subject because I've been clenching my jaw too much from the frustration of it all and have aggravated my TMJD, and now it hurts like hell. To all those who still think that a 14 year old girl is the responsible party here, I feel terribly sorry for you if you have any children that are now or will be teenagers eventually. You are going to get quite a surprise, so good luck with that, you're going to need it. And a good therapist-for yourself.

Thank you for all of your great posts and advocacy. I don't have kids, but I teach high school and feel very protective of teens and their slightly mad antics. They need us for protecting them from themselves while they are growing into their strength. If she had died down there as a result of this galactic-grade fuck-up...I don't even want to think about it.

from the ordeal. And, I agree with the folks who are criticizing ICE. PALEASE - she was a 14yo! FOURTEEN! She is a CHILD - she shouldn't be blamed for adults' ineptness. Or her RAPE! I won't be surprised when it comes out that the government is the one lying.
