I usually do not write about personal issues here. Well, that's not really true. Plus, divorce is a big deal. I had opted for a separation from incoming film of Trump in April, opting to allow Stephen Colbert to represent my interests on television. I read some articles on the internet. But Trump is so toxic that I found not watching him was the healthy option.

Keep in mind that Trump wants every human being on Earth to watch and think about him each and every day. While I remain aware that he exists, I have better things to do with my time. And that obviously includes working for Democratic Party victories in November. I do not need to listen to any member of the Trump cult to focus on that.

While in my separation from listening to Trump phase, I took daily phone calls from family, friends, and/or associates, asking if I heard what he said or tweeted on that particular day? I noted that good people were becoming saturated in the anger and hostility that Trump was injecting into society. I found myself recalling a documentary I watched about an old man who only watched Fox News, morphing him from a decent gentleman into a raging turd. I strongly recommended these callers file for a separation from Trump, and place a restraining order on their televisions and computers.

As spring sprung, I began working in my garden, thinking more home-grown food might come in handy if Trump engineers a more total collapse of our country. Because I'm old and not nearly as strong as I was at age 26, I depend upon my young and enormously powerful sons to do the heavy lifting. I do the more technical tasks, including weeding, planting seeds, and changing the Beatles CDs as needed.

One son noted that weeds continue to sprout up in the garden beds. "The Earth is alive," I told him. That is a Good Thing that we should all be consciously aware of. Do not listen if Trump recommends injecting Round Up into the soil, for he is soon to be on the compost pile of the past.

The ultimate factor that led to the divorce was when my cousin called me, and was laughing so hard that it took several minutes before I understood what he was attempting to communicate. Trump told reporters that he was taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure. Yikes! Perhaps the aging lard-ball is heading for an early round up in hell, if such a place exists anywhere outside of the current White House. The very idea has reportedly resulted in millions of agnostics and athiests praying for such an outcome.

However, it is important to recognize that there are other potential side effects. Taking this for no valid reason can cause some unattractive, long-term consequences. These include paranoid and delusional thinking, as if Trump's mushroom-shaped brain needs an increase in those areas. Quite literally, it can convince a person that someone else can hear their thoughts. Perhaps this explains why Trump, beyond campaigning, is refusing to participate in the hanging of President Obama's portrait in the White House. That painting might be spying on his every thought.

We have a president who, now taking hydroxychloroquine, increasing his moral hydrophobia and ethical hydrochlamydria, will become increasingly dangerous as he seeks to spread his disease. The next five months hold the potential for tragic events across the land. I refuse to allow Trump et al room in my mind. Instead, I prefer to be one of the weeds that choke the life out of any insanity Trump plants in the White House.

16. A funny thing ......

not that I recommend it for others. Two years ago, on the ride home from a few days at the NYS Golden Gloves' finals, my son asked me if I had ever been knocked out cold in a fight? I had not, in 329 bouts.

Upon arriving home, my dogs were so happy to see me that they knocked me over. I hit the back of my fat head on a sturdy counter, and was knocked very unconscious. Luckily, my boy was carrying my stuff into the house, and found me.Being Irish by nature, I waited the required 48 hours before seeking medical attention. The symptoms refused to go away in that time period.

Long story long, I spent some time in the ICU. My brain had a pool of blood on it, and there wasa section of what the good doctors called "dead brain matter." Anyhow, I can honestly say that I haven't been in a bad mood since then .....at least that I can remember. But I will say that "dead brain matter" sounds like a Trump cult war cry: "Dead brains matter! Dead brains matter!"

The ER doctor kept asking me why I waited for days before seeking medical attention? Didn't I know that I could have died? I informed him that I'd much rather die in the discomfort of my own home -- that it was being convinced I would live that brought me there.

After a full day in the ER, they put me in the ICU, and had me sign a form saying I would not so much as attempt to get out of bed without two nurses assisting me. Thus, every two hours, I would pretend to sleepwalk to the nurses' station outside my door, and inquire if any local business delivered marijuana? Or insist that one of them surely had a bowl in their car, waiting for lunch time.

Recently, my best doctor read the two interviews I did with Dr. Bandy Lee, and said that it was apparent that my brain had healed. She also reminded me that I am old, and that aging is a process that requires patience. I'm not so sure about that, but I'm happy to play this hand as long as the game lasts.

A strange, not really funny thing: the commissioner who runs the GG told me last year that several guys scheduled to fight Darren call him at the last minute, saying they can't come because their grandmother is sick or died. He said it had gotten to the point where it was funny but frustrating, and he had told one guy he needed to quit lying. With covid, he can't be so sure, unless granny has died two years in a row.

Last Saturday, my younger son drove me to visit some old (and young) Native friends, and to do ceremony. I found out two days ago that a good friend who has participated in our ceremonies for years had a baby girl around the time we were in the lodge! She told me that she figured it was a good birthday, knowing it was mine.

Yesterday, my cat had kittens, somewhere in my garage, and I have ten new chicks. I called the chicks my new herd of raptors on facebook, and another old friend from ceremony said that would make a good name for a rock band.

A lot of my extended family and friends were born in May. Today is, for example, my cousin/brother's birthday. He's the one who was the victim of a "road rage" incident a few years back, when a drunk, off-duty cop shot him and his son -- because his son was driving the speed limit, and the guy wanted to hurry to get another six-pack. The son died in my cousin's arms, while the cop continued for a couple miles and got the beer. The DU Community played an essential role in lobbying the DA and county judge for the strictest handling of the case.

The rose bushes have new growth, and some dwarf forget-me-nots have carpeted part of my tiny flower bed. I have planted nothing this year, as it only just stopped snowing. In the last few years, I have been entranced by how many of last year's annuals have decided they like to grow here, and reseeded themselves in attractive places. The peonies have buds. As for our president, I have maintained from the beginning of his "tenure" that he should never have been sworn in to begin with, and that the rest of the country is under the mass delusion that he has any power. He has no power except what we give him, which I recommend we stop doing immediately, especially his power to spoil our day. Only we can spoil our day. Instead, let's seize the day, seed it, water if necessary, and admire our crop while listening to Beatles CDs.

I've been working on my flower beds as well. My peonies are doing great. I just love them! And I'm expanding some of my rose beds ....well, my boys are.

In the 1940s through '52, a lady who lived and died here put in enormous flower beds, surrounding the lawn. We've got a lot of them back in business since moving here in 1995. I think about her every year when plants come up and into bloom. Others who have lived here since the place was a stage coach station circa 1795 on have also planted roses. Your last paragraph nails it. I truly appreciate that. I've long been fascinated with our Constitution, with Constitutional Law (imperfect as it has at times been), and the good people from our country. I know the feeling very well.

I have three friends from other countries -- two from Europe, one from the Middle East -- that I came to know through my children's college experience. (One of their fathers was an ambassador who was in the room back when the fellow threw his shoes at George W. Bush!) They all say that their people were puzzled as to how Trump was ever mistaken for a "leader," and are horrified by what America has become.

This spring, my younger son an I have been walking some of our favorite fields, collecting artifacts from the past. He is a crisis counselor at a small city school in our area. He has the ability to identify, on many levels, the problems associated with his job, and the current social-political environment. We always have meaningful conversations as we walk, though this spring, I can tell he is very concerned about the future.

Thus, every time we've been out this year, he questions me about the three primary reformation prophets of the Iroquois, in great detail. Sapling was circa 2,000, Peace Maker 425 ad, and Hianwatha 850 ad. (Handsome Lake was 1798, though those I am associated with respect his vision, but remain Long House.)

Societies that reach a state of empire always decay from within, in cycles that are as certain as the seasons. However, that decay can be used for the compost that promotes new growth of principles -- for great principles remain constant. The agents of decay in our society have no principles, of corse, thus promoting the unhealthy tensions in our present day. An obvious example is that Trump feels no eed to tell the Truth. For lying is his language, and deceit his tongue.

I love the promise of my garden. New sprouts are popping up through the living Earth. All of organic life on Earth is here for the Earth's purposes. All of organic life either grows, or decays. I struggle at times to keep that in mind. But I do see some strong, healthy new life coming up in the younger generations. Like yourself, I do not know how long I'll be here to witness their growth. But if they stick to those principles, I think they will overcome the current rot.

I recognize there is some wisdom in the old saying "hate the sin, love the sinner." But when I see the suffering and death he causes -- often with glee -- I say, "Fuck that."

Last night, I learned another old friend died of corona, the second this week. There were too many people dying in the first two months of the year, but the pace has picked up.

This essay was the direct result of a conversation that I had with our Good Friend "malaise" a day earlier. Talking with her always makes me remember that there are things we can and must do to take care of ourselves.

When the social isolating came about, both of my sons decided to ride it out here. They said it would be an up-dated version of when they were little, and the three of us lived in an apartment, and had some adventures. When circumstances led to gyms closing, and the Golden Gloves' finals being postponed, my younger boy said it meant I would need to be his sparring partner. Yikes! He said that it ould be similar to when he was a youngster, except that now he'd be the big strong guy. Ha!

I knew who he was, from his partnership with Don King in promoting boxing in the 1980s. Having a very, very low opinion of King, I assumed Trump was just another parasite. I was unaware of "The Apprentice" until he entered the republican primaries, as I have no interest in that type of crap.

When he was first in the primaries, an associate assured me it was a scam with two goals: to promote the Trump brand, and todamage Jeb Bush as severely as possible, so that Clinton could wipe the mat with Bush in the general election. Obviously, even if that was the original plan, things changed during the primaries. I have also done likewise, because I can't bear to hear tRump at all, not even on Colbert, whom I love. I have even had to limit my exposure to the various late night comedy shows, because if Agolf Twitler comes on I end up shouting over his speech, in an effort to drown him out. It is cathartic, the first few times, but becomes harmful to my mental and physical health when it happens too often. When I want to catch up with the news, I prefer coming to DU, where I can control my exposure. Your garden sounds wonderful. I am also old, so I will have to limit my interaction with my yard. But even aching muscles is better than the toxic swill that is coming from Dolt 45.

Remember being young, when things like aching muscles and injuries healed quickly? Ha! Those were the days!

Wednesday and Thursday brought beautiful warm, sunny weather here. Even when I wasn't actually working in the garden, I was sitting there and listening to Beatles CDs. I forgot all about sun burn, unfortunately, and yesterday found myself a bright red (except for where my ponytail made for a pale line down the length of my back). Thus, I spent much of the day in the shade near the garden, listening to the Beatles, Hendrix, the Doors, and Neil Young. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

86. Yeah, those were the days.

I sure bounced back more quickly, it seemed. And I could get by with a lot less sleep. Music helps a lot. Rock and roll forever! I find myself really enjoying old tunes from the sixties and seventies. They bring back memories of good times. Wishing joy to you and yours. Please stay safe and well.

61. A day doesn't go past without something more outrageous than the last.

I'm tired of him, really tired. Don't even look for his next idiocy. It does seem to seep in regardless,though.
For now my main priorities are sheltering in place, social distancing, and ALWAYS wearing a mask. And of course staying in contact with those I care about as best as I can.

I lot of them are the good people on DU. I don't post much, but I do enjoy reading the writings of really intelligent people.

81. I found DU

to be an oasis during the Cheney-bush years. I think it serves the same role now, and that is at least as necessary today as it was then.

If we were to encounter a person like Trump in our every-day life, we would surely do everything in our power to avoid any contact with him. We wouldn't have hung out with him in high school, or in college. We should not allow Trump any more room in our lives today.
