How Could this be?
No one is discussing the fact that this virus will not stop until we test everyone. You can’t stop something you can’t see. It’s the first fucking step.
All the happy talk about opening safely is the height of ridiculousness. 40% of the people who have it, don’t even know. How is taking their temperature going to stop the spread?

2. Answer...
First: testing everyone will NOT stop the virus. There seems to be growing consensus that the virus cannot be stopped and only a vaccine will provide safety.Add to which, testing TODAY tells you nothing about someone's condition tomorrow. The only value in testing is to identify hotspots that call for isolation rules.
Second: you cannot close the economy indefinitely. I have a cushy white collar job and can work at home indefinitely. Many people do not. Blue collar and service workers and small businesses are on the verge of economic collapse if the economy remains entirely closed. Dying from starvation or homelessness is not an improvement on the risk of dying from a virus. |

5. if a working environment..
say like the White House tests people on a regular basis, and isolates those who test positive, then traces those the person was in contact with, does it not contain the virus, so that the business being done continues? What does 'closing the economy' have to do with testing and tracing? Why is there some either/or implied? Why dismiss something out of hand, that this country has not tried, but is what scientists agree is the best practice. Many of those small businesses are gone, and will not be coming back. I don't get how people disregard the state of Main Street before covid-19. The economy was great, if you worked 2-3 jobs to keep up, or like yourself have a cushy job. Homelessness, and hunger can be temporary conditions, while dead is dead.

7. It seems to me, for future sake, that every individual could have
some form of an at home test kit to do our own testing every morning ... as easy as taking a pill. If the virus is going to haunt and hunt us indefinitely, we certainly should prepare for the worst and manufacture test kits - let's make it happen.

3. most businesses are more cautious than donnie and the republicans generally are.
they'll reopen more prudently, and they'll shut down again more aggressively when (inevitably) there's a local outbreak.
more people will get infected and die than necessary, but in the aggregate, the country isn't as completely reckless as donnie would like us to be. |

4. Make Masks Mandatory For Anyone Who Will Get Within 10 Feet Of Another In Public Will Stop Covid-19
I know it is a freedom issue.
I have the right to not have some Covid infected moron breathing bugs on me because they don't want to wear a mask in public. I wonder how "Stand Your Ground" would apply here? Wonder.... |
