Oh, snap! Big Gretch (Governor Whitmer) for the win:

He called me names early on and I sent him a cake, says @GovWhitmer of @SenMikeShirkey. "Hopefully his emotions will stop getting the better of him."

6. Well, you know how hysterical men can get, amirite?

It's like for some of them, the least little thing will set them off, and you just never know what it's going to be.

12. Free cake would certainly calm this man down.

Make it red velvet and you've made a friend for life

13. I pictured you as more of a triple-decker sandwich kind of guy

Can't say why.

14. We have a sandwich place that I frequent

(or at least I did when things were normal) and most times I will in fact order the "Dagwood." It's turkey, ham and corned beef. It's not piled comically high, unfortunately, but it's still darn tasty.

15. We're so emotional, how can anyone rely on us?

Completely losing all control over the tiniest, most inconsequential thing.

7. What comments?

What were his “comments on the Senate floor (that were) wildly inaccurate”?

10. Gov. Whitmer may cause a cake shortage trying to make nice with Republicans.

There won't be enough cake to turn them from the dark side.

11. I hope it works.

I suggested something similar (baking cookies) to my Mom once for a colleague she was constantly at odds with. It DID work, and they became good friends. But that was a woman. I don't have as much confidence in a man's ability to learn Especiallt a male Senator - they are often extremely self-important.
