Is DU in trouble?

Under this executive order can DU be in jeopardy for censoring opposing views? Let's hope not.

10. I've seen many, many posts over the years wishing physical harm on Trump/Republicans

I tend not to respond to them, as I don't want to get wrapped up in that.

6. It's a free country. Companies are free to censor anything they want and post anything they want.

tRump's Swamp State? Not so much.

Naturally there are limits akin to "shouting 'fire' in a crowded theatre", but company censorship of posts does not qualify.

7. The First Amendment is not about private companies

It protects free speech from governmental interference.

Private companies can pretty much do as they please.

Tyranny doesn't come from a corporation. It comes from a repressive government. That's what the Bill of Rights protects against.

9. But companies (and individuals) may

be exposed to punishment if the messages (and messenger) are from a protected class.

13. The corporation I work for can...

Search my vehicle
Forbid a firearm in my vehicle at work
Drug test randomly without cause
Fire me for something I post on social media
Control my health care

In many ways they have more power than government.

11. Potentially, yes, if this ever came into effect. Any forum, social media, etc...

has latitude under Section 230 to regulate its users and police content for things deemed inappropriate.

But any attempt to pull something basted on his new EO would be tied up in the courts for a long while.

17. NO, First of all, Trump is overstepping. Second of all, it still cost him votes if he screws with

the internet and already some in the White House are pushing back. We still have a first amendment. And there is a law on the books about big media. EO can not overturn a law.

23. No. I'm waiting for the ACLU to sue.

Some of the best money I have spent is an ACLU membership.

Damn, tootin...I am a card carrying ACLU “pinko”.

24. DU censors users all the time

You cannot offer any criticism of Democratic politicians on this site. Even direct quotes from said politicians are considered “bashing.”

However, this policy is selectively enforced. I got a post hidden when I criticized Biden’s ‘You ain’t black’ remark, but yesterday DUers trashed Amy Klobuchar with abandon and no one had their posts hidden.

Go figure
