He can and most assuredly will try to stoke up a race war.

This morning Trump tweeted ‘you start looting we start shooting’ – and with this he played straight into one of the white privileged instincts of the out of control looting ‘scary black folks’ coming to get them, and that only he can save them from such a terrible fate. When he says that the DoJ and the FBI are going to get to the bottom of the murder of George Floyd it is the exact opposite of what he wants. He will use those tools at his disposal to delay any kind of investigation or sense of justice being delivered. You can see that from the press conference yesterday which did not give any concrete actions and had an utter lack of urgency surrounding it, even as Minneapolis burns. If he can he will play this straight through to November. He cannot use Covid-19 as a re-election tool, he cannot use the economy as a re-election tool. BUT he can and most assuredly will try stoke up a race war. Vote for me to save you from the ‘scary black man’ bogey. He will do this irrespective of the deepening divisions that have been cratered by his administration because at heart he really is a white supremacist for whom black lives really do not matter, and he knows for part of America, this is also a fundamental truth.

This is going to be a bumpy ride.

But he publicly let the voters know what he stood for, and his supporters love it.

He doesn't care how many people have died and will die as long as he gets to stay in the White House. He will play any situation to his advantage. Now he has violence in Minneapolis and Twitter wars to use as a distraction.

If only Republicans had put country over politics in January. . . .

Why was there a two hour delay? What did they expect to announce? The failure to arrest the killer cop got me thinking maybe the orange despot staged an intervention on behalf of the rogue cops.

(NYT, July 16, 2019) "A contentious, yearslong debate inside the Justice Department over whether to bring federal civil rights charges against an officer in the death of Eric Garner ended on Tuesday after Attorney General William P. Barr ordered that the case be dropped."

A Staten Island grand jury also declined to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo on criminal charges after the Garner murder, a decision that was heavily criticized by activists and sparked many protests. Pantaleo is now suing the NYPD for firing him.

That press conference yesterday was a farce. The US Attorney was probably given the word: Trump will never allow Barr to file charges in the Floyd case.

I wasn’t paying full attention, but I thought he said something along the lines of other evidence changing what we had seen on the video that had been released. A second video was even worse, as the officer at one time obviously moved his knee to press down even harder.

This was clearly murder and I do not understand why these ex-officers have not been arrested.Had they been arrested, the protests and looting likely would not have happened. Given the number of complaints and deaths Chauvin had been involved in and he was still on the force, is the police chief also a problem?

"us versus them". He must think ALL white people think like he does. WRONG. There are many more civilized white people than the uncivilized clan members in tRump's groups. Times are changing, slowly but surely. Many of us understand WHY black people are upset. Their voices are being ignored, while their friends and neighbors are being killed needlessly. If a group of heavily armed black men had stormed any capital building they would have been shot. The fools on the "right" get away with this behavior. There were WHITE people breaking windows in Minneapolis, it was on ABC News. tRump followers, no doubt. He is a total, unprecedented DISASTER for this country. The gop has enabled this monster, and will continue to support him until he is taken out of the WH. A president is supposed to represent ALL citizens, not just privileged white ones. Cooler heads have to prevail, but the mistake in the WH is not the one who will do it. He only fights for his own survival. The rest of us can go to hell. How many clowns must the gop promote to president, before people get the message that the gop does not have a clue how to run this country?

about. It fits perfectly with the video showing a white cop breaking windows in Minneapolis.

This is not new stuff, folks. I am not prescient in warning about it. I am just old enough to remember COINTELPRO from the 60s. Former Secretsry of State, Madeline Albright, wrote a book titled Fascism, A Warning, on how democracies fall to dictators.

Nixon was held in check by the system. Trump is destroying the system. It is essential that the video of cops escalating the protests in Minneapolis reach mainstream media for airing. The tactics and goals of Trump and Trumpists need to be exposed.

Even if we toss him out of our White House next January, he will only get worse. He is not going to go away quietly. He is a supreme narcissist and he feeds off of the attention he gets and the chaos he promotes. Doesn't matter if it's good or bad attention - it's the attention and chaos he needs to survive.

I'm afraid you are exactly correct about your post title.

It's not just a race war. It's a civil war. He's divided black from white, Republican from Democrat - right into the Congress in some instances. He divided coastal cities from America, blue states from red states, 2A from not 2A, the aged from the young, even dividing religions. It's the basis for a civil war along multiple and indistinct fault lines.
