Why is Target closing stores across the country? I can see in MN, Mnplis but why in MO, OK, etc.

Do they feel those stores have 'guilt by association'?

I thought that particular store got hit b/c of its location.

Does Target think it's done something to cause serious anger?

Target became the main revenue generator and they renamed the corporation to reflect that. Later they sold Dayton's and Hudson's to Macy's.

At the same time they are targets.

They aren’t fodder for “the cause”. The destructive morons and trashy looters have done a lot to attempt to ruin the protests.

Today, big-box retail stores are no more a part of the community than fast-food chains. Minneapolis, corporate home of Target, a $77 billion company, is still deeply segregated, and the poverty rate for Black people in the city is more than three times that of white residents. The downtown Minneapolis Target store was built with a public subsidy of $60 million. Nearby Brooklyn Park gave $22 million in tax breaks for Target’s headquarters. In 2015, the company laid off 1,700 people. Who exactly is looting whom?

but not excessively so. It also has a large percentage of the workforce drawn from the neighborhood. In particular from South high school.
While I'm not trying to defend anyone it should be noted that Target is willing to put stores in urban locations like that and that a percent of corporate giving is a the discretion the local store to help directly with the community.

"Local 5 has confirmed the Target at Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines has closed early Friday.

Details are slim, but a company spokeswoman confirms the store closed early at 5:00 p.m. for the safety of shoppers and employees.

Target has been in the spotlight recently, with the company closing its stores in its home area of the Twin Cities, in the aftermath of George Floyd's death."
