My letter to my Congressman

I live in a small blue island in a very red Congressional district. My Congressman Greg Walden has never voted the way I have asked him to. I have continued to call his offices to express my concerns. He is not running for reelection and I sent him the following email. Not holding my breath.

Dear Congressman Walden:

Your constituents are waiting for you to make a forceful statement about your President's behavior. You voted against his impeachment this year, even with all the obvious evidence presented in the House. Even with all of Trump's obstruction of the inquiry and his refusal to respond to any lawful subpoenas, you supported him.

You are, I understand, and Episcopalian. So am I. That means we hear the same lectionary every week. The same Gospels. Are you not disgusted and horrified by Trump's using of OUR church as a political stage? A Bible was in his hand, used not as the word of God, but as a prop. Yet you still stand by silently.

He is threatening to use the US military against our own citizens, which is not legal except in the most specific and dire circumstances. What about the military families and veterans who live in your district? Do you not stand up for them?

He has massively bungled the response to a global pandemic that has hit the United States harder than any other nation on earth. You think that's all OK? Your silence is deafening.

You are retiring seven months from now. You probably have another job lined up that will carry you comfortably into the future. You do not have to run for election ever again. You can stand up and do what's right for this nation that you have sworn to defend. You must speak out against this person residing in our White House before it's too late. He is trying to destroy our republic - and that's not hyperbole.

A fervent plea from one of your constituents - DO SOMETHING!

---------------

I'll probably just receive one of his milquetoast response letters, but it felt good to express my feelings. I will report back.

I post directly there my disagreements of praise for Trump. He has a post praising the tactics used to clear out Lafayette Park so Trump could have his photo op.

Check to see if your Congress person has Facebook Page where you can civilly post your concerns.

Plus it would likely be seen by other people.

I've been avoiding FB, but for this it might be worth it to log on.

Since the departure of John Boehner, his fortunes with the wingnut GOP were marginalized. Being in the minority is no fun. K Street looks lucrative for him. Look for him to be the voice of the timber industry.

I don't know if the guy believes in the crap he votes for. He has only one constituent now...Greg Walden.

Yep. And the guy who will likely replace him, Cliff Bentz, is even farther to the right.

I'm sorry Jamie McLeod-Skinner isn't running for District 2 this year instead of last year.
