The AP does some real journalism and discovers that "antifa" is pretty much non-existent

As Trump blames antifa, protest records show scant evidence
By MICHAEL BIESECKER, MICHAEL KUNZELMAN, JAKE BLEIBERG and ALANNA DURKIN RICHER

<...>

The Associated Press analyzed court records, employment histories, social media posts and other sources of information for 217 people arrested last weekend in Minneapolis and the District of Columbia, two cities at the epicenter of the protests across the United States.

Rather than outside agitators, more than 85% of those arrested by police were local residents. Of those charged with such offenses as curfew violations, rioting and failure to obey law enforcement, only a handful appeared to have any affiliation with organized groups.

Those charged with more serious offenses related to looting and property destruction – such as arson, burglary and theft – often had past criminal records. But they, too, were overwhelmingly local residents taking advantage of the chaos.

Social media posts indicate only a few of those arrested are left-leaning activists, including a self-described anarchist. But others had indications of being on the political right, including some Trump supporters.

<...>

There have been violent acts, including property destruction and theft. Police officers and protesters have been seriously injured and killed. But federal law enforcement officials have offered little evidence that antifa-aligned protesters could be behind a movement that has appeared nearly simultaneously in hundreds of cities and towns in all 50 states since Floyd’s death.

The right wing deserves a monster under their bed.
We should be promoting appearances of the dreaded armies of antifa on all social media.

"Massive antifa groups around the nation are pooling resources to buy up all gun shops and Hobby Lobby outlets across America".....

Seriously, this illustrates how nuts a large portion of our nation has become. Last weekend, wingnuts from one town in Washington State felled trees across roads to keep busloads of antifa out that were coming to burn and loot their town. It's a miracle the peaceful protest in Klamath Falls, Oregon didn't end up with some shootings from the nutjobs with guns across the street.

I'm guessing this viral bullshit is being sourced by the gun lobby, the NRA and Russia.

last week with reports that antifa was going to bus hordes of armed antifa in to attack the town.

In my town, a bank closed and windows were boarded up as a result of it, making local people believe there would be looting and violence.

This does not help our cause. It's very, very stupid.

when the root source is traced in several instances the rumors came from the police, indicating those cops did not do due diligence to confirm validity. When folks here these things from police, they take it as gospel. Some others were traced back to a gun dealer.

You've probably seen this article from another DU post: https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/klamath-falls-oregon-victory-declared-over-antifa-which-never-showed-n1226681

This shook me to my core:

Some responding to the posts were incredulous, but few could argue when a screenshot of a direct message from Col. Jeff Edwards, the commander of the Oregon Air National Guard’s 173rd Fighter Wing, was posted in one of the groups.

"Team Kingsley, for your safety I ask you to please avoid the downtown area this evening. We received an alert that there may be 2 busloads of ANTIFA protesters en route to Klamath Falls and arriving in downtown around 2030 tonight," the post stated.

Maj. Nikki Jackson, a spokeswoman for the 173rd Fighter Wing, confirmed in an email that the message had come from Edwards.

"This was an internal message sent by Col Edwards to the Citizen-Airmen of the 173d Fighter Wing for their situational awareness and safety," Jackson said. "The alert was received from local law enforcement agencies here in Klamath Falls."

Somehow, this insanity must stop.....

Have they dropped any pretenses and gone all in for it.
They clearly are anti-democratic and democracy. Sad times sad times.
I can respect a conservative (though I don't think I would know one if I saw one)
but radical fascists taking over our country must be stopped.

People believed it. This antifa scam is a dangerous thing that gives an excuse for right wingers to get violent.
