Gregory Declares Bibi King of the Jews

Gregory Declares Bibi King of the Jews

Josh Marshall

Okay, not quite that bad. But not a good moment.

On Meet the Press this morning David Gregory referred to Benjamin Netanyahu as “Leaders of the Jews” and in his role as ‘leader of the Jewish People” asked for his verdict on President Obama. “You are the leader of the Jewish people,” Gregory told Netanyahu.

Helping matters somewhat, Gregory went on Twitter a short time ago and clarified that it would have been “better to say he’s leader of jewish state.” To which I would say, yes, much better. In fact, probably best to say, he’s leader or Prime Minister of Israel.

I saw him at the Salle Pleyel in Paris in 1968. A group of us musicians went backstage after the show. He let us each take a strum on Lucille and gave each of us one of his guitar picks as souvenirs. He hit on the beautiful and gorgeous black sister of one of my guitarist friends from Djibouti (in a very gentlemanly way) and he more or less made us plain fans feel important. He was totally without ego. I met him again a year later in a music store in Oakland and he was the same humble down-to-earth human being.
