11. Until surveyed many respondents really hadn't thought it unusual
There were some outliers:
Some reported "having the best day of my life," while others were "not really at my best today." |

12. And the vast majority are Asians living exceedingly boring lives
The top three Islamic Countries are Indonesia Pakistan Bengladesh There are more Muslims in China than Saudia Arabia. These folks live very quiet lives in villages that have almost no drunkeness and spend inordinate amounts of time with extended family in a calendar of non ending holidays. |

15. I think India is number three.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Muslim_population
I thought it was two, but I guess they've slipped behind Pakistan. Of course the three you mentioned are majority Muslim, which India is not, so maybe that's what you meant. I don't know how you'd find out for sure, but I heard awhile ago that there were more people in China who can speak English than in the US. I think it's very important to remember that we - just as Westerners alone - are a minority in the world. |

25. Just saw this Pew poll from back in July: Most Muslims Want Democracy, Personal Freedoms ...
![]() More than a year after the first stirrings of the Arab Spring, there continues to be a strong desire for democracy in Arab and other predominantly Muslim nations. Solid majorities in Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia and Jordan believe democracy is the best form of government, as do a plurality of Pakistanis. Indeed, these publics do not just support the general notion of democracy – they also embrace specific features of a democratic system, such as competitive elections and free speech. Support for Gender Equality ![]() Limited Support for Extremist Groups ![]() Few believe the United States wants democracy in the Middle East ![]() http://www.pewglobal.org/2012/07/10/most-muslims-want-democracy-personal-freedoms-and-islam-in-political-life/ |

26. Thanks for the tables. Very informative.
Especially the attitude on women's rights. Nice to see the men having some respect for the other 51% of the human race in some of those countries. (Though some still are backward)

24. But there is a tendency for US news viewers to consider this behavior representative
I will grant you that when people see the news about some crazy guy shooting up a fast food restaurant in Podunk, all but the most easily frightened will avoid fast food restaurants as a consequence. But what we do have in the United States is a significant portion of the population who are led to believe that Muslims, in general, have some sort of higher propensity to engage in socially undesirable extreme behavior. I have not seen any representative of white people step forward and condemn the Sikh Temple shooting, and therefore I must conclude that white people tacitly support that kind of thing. |

23. Like most people: Life revolves around work, school and family. Very few of them or us spend our
days plotting revenge attacks. Their power structure (like ours) seems to condone or even encourage a level of anti-social behavior.
Unfortunately they have their 'tea party'-like conservative folks who "want their country back", perhaps the way it never was, and are willing engage in such behavior. |

27. Civilization is a stream with banks.
"Civilization is a stream with banks. The stream is sometimes filled with blood from people killing, stealing, shouting and doing the things historians usually record, while on the banks, unnoticed, people build homes, make love, raise children, sing songs, write poetry and even whittle statues. The story of civilization is the story of what happened on the banks. Historians are pessimists because they ignore the banks for the river."
