Avondale teachers get 1-year deal
The Avondale School District and the Avondale Education Association announced a contract agreement last week that has members of the union representing teachers and other professional employees agreeing to a 4.25% pay cut.
Members also agreed to take five furlough days, to decrease by 10% the amount they are compensated for coaching and sponsoring extracurricular activities and to suspend longevity pay for teachers who have worked in the district 18 years or more.
Teachers also will continue to pay 20% toward their health care premiums. The contract covers the 2012-13 school year.
