She's been one of my top choices ever since her name has been brought up as a possible running mate with Vice President Biden. I just saw her on The View and she's now my #1.
There's no link that I can post (probably too soon) of this specific appearance. Having said that, I encourage you guys to check her out if you haven't.

Being a Floridian may put her over the top for me...

(25,111 posts)All the Democratic Impeachment Managers were excellent. She proved that she is qualified. She is also a veteran in Law Enforcement which is a plus.

(16,646 posts)I live here where she was the top cop. I'm afraid she's got some baggage that might not work out so well. She's probably better where she is, or maybe as a cabinet member.

(8,030 posts)I've spent time doing my own vetting on the possible candidates. I want to see what's out that regarding the possibilities. I've read enough negative articles to leave me unimpressed with Klobuchar.
If I might ask, where did you meet Val Demings and what happened? Also, would you let me know where I can find the articles that are specific regarding what the baggage is.
Thanks...

(16,646 posts)But she's been in local politics for years around here. Her husband still is. You can look in the Orlando Sentinel and the Orlando weekly for articles about her. Most of it centers around discipline issues inside the sherrifs department.

(67,381 posts)Not a good look because she was a Police Chief or because of specifics? (I'm working on a project and doing my own vetting).
Thanks

(1,086 posts)She has the same problem as Klobuchar, but with a more direct connection to the department.
There is some nasty stuff there under her term.

(1,086 posts)So all the local communities are second and little things are stamped on hard. The issue came up when she first ran and her response that examples of bad policing are like finding prayer in a church was not a real excuse.
The most famous incident was her protection of the body slamming of an 83 year old that broke a vertebrae.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. She did work hard and made some real gains, but so did Klobuchar. The times just don't allow for a real explanation or defense.

(1,184 posts)Two terms in her left-leaning district does not a seasoned politician make.
And as others have pointed out, her stint as police chief was not without controversy. There were many complaints about police brutality.
In the past, I have thought, "Oh, a black woman who has credibility with police--what a perfect balance to straddle the line for the election!" but I have come to fear that she may be the compromise that ends up pleasing no one.

I want to have the least amount of baggage, controversy, etc. as humanely possible! I DON'T want to be playing defense again (and we can't say but "Trump did this and Trump did that....)". Unfortunately, we have to play by different rules...
