Why it would be a good idea for Democrats to work with Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) on police reform?

It should be noted that Scott is the only African-American Republican in the US Senate.

Democrats would be able to put pressure on the entire Republican caucus if they work with Scott to come up with real "police reform". The public should be kept abreast of their negotiations.

In my opinion, this would be a good strategy for the Democrats.

It does nothing to reform the police.

The republicans do not want to change anything about the police.

It doesn't ban choke holds.

It doesn't address police immunity.

It doesn't address the militarization of the police.

It doesn't address the power of police "unions".

They are not interested in reform

Tim Scott is not interested in reform.

Tim Scott can be persuaded to support "real" police reform. The rest of the Republican Party cannot.

That is why it would be wise to work with Scott and to make all proposals public information.

Don't think there's any give and take with any repugs, even him, they just want window dressing and pretense.

as his suggestions seemed pretty weak tea to me. And if it is part of the deal that his plan be followed to the exclusion to others then I don't think so. The only possibility would be a set in stone agreement that the Dems can offer amendments.

If they were sincere, they could always start with the reforms of the Obama administration that were subsequently trashed by this one and build on those.

They could start with chokeholds. I've never been impressed with Sen. Scott and his 'suggestions' make him a definite disappointment. How could he come out, and with a straight face, present that reform bill?
