At this particular moment in history... If we want a total landslide

A landslide that would be extremely difficult for President Dipshit to contest...Biden would pick Cuomo as VP. I know, he's a male.

We will win anyway, but think people are subconsciously yearning for a COVID expert/manager type with a liberal heart who cares about everyone and social equality and justice. At this moment in history!

Flame away

1. Cuomo is great, BUT

We can't have another old white male.

We just can't.

My heart is still broken about Hillary. And the African American vote can never be taken for granted. South Carolina voters pushed Joe to the top of the heap and I think Cuomo would not be a good fit. We have plenty of wicked smart women who can take on that challenge.

2. Agree with it all... But there are some points in history that

are SO important that they supercede everything else that's worthy and noble. Those causes are not going away, nor will they be forgotten.

Jeez with Cuomo you have instant, full, name recognition. With the relegation of Fauci, he's the current "man."

If a vaccine comes our early 2021, do you want trump/pence in charge ? Or Biden/Cuomo?

3. Wicked smart would be CRITICAL in normal times. Instantly

recognizable, demonstrable COVID management is what could insure a victory. IMHO. It's the number one thing on people's minds right now. That and of course social justice.

Has any state "done well"? #s can flip on a dime.

20. It would do just as well for Biden to pre-name his cabinet,

with Cuomo as head of HHS or DHS, whichever would be more appropriate to then make him the pandemic czar.

30. Likely, without disappointing anyone. :)

In front of the cameras, though, he is definitely an anti-Trump. The man has such gravitas, projecting strength and authority, that even those frightened people who're normally repelled by complex sentences and (gimme a break!) detailed explanations would probably feel an urge to cling to him.

15. It is weird that some (mostly white males) think that choosing Cuomo...

would result in a landslide. I like his push-back at Trump, and most of his handling regarding the coronavirus... but, for me, he is more on the 'meh' scale in terms of VP or a potential future president.

Heck, my gov did a better job regarding the coronavirus (imo). The de Blasio/Cuomo dick waving contest was really off-putting for women, as well.

4. if it's simply a landslide we're after, I think Mattis would bring more than Cuomo

I don't think Mattis would take it, nor do I think he would be the right choice for all sorts of reasons. (Nor, ultimately, do I think that any VP choice makes the difference between a landslide and not a landslide.)

Still, it would be fun to see trump's reaction; it would be fun to see other republicans react as well.

19. if you are going with a white male 4 star military hero, Adm. William McRaven would be the best shot

Navy Seal, he lead the bin Laden kill, and was U of Texas Chancellor after he retired from the military. He HATES Trump.

William Harry McRaven (born November 6, 1955) is a retired United States Navy four-star admiral who last served as the ninth commander of the United States Special Operations Command from August 8, 2011, to August 28, 2014. From 2015 to 2018, he was the chancellor of The University of Texas System.

McRaven previously served from June 13, 2008, to August 2011 as commander of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and from June 2006 to March 2008 as commander of Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR). In addition to his duties as COMSOCEUR, he was designated as the first director of the NATO Special Operations Forces Coordination Centre (NSCC), where he was charged with enhancing the capabilities and inter-operability of all NATO Special Operations Forces. McRaven retired from the U.S. Navy on August 28, 2014, after more than 37 years of service.

24. oh yeah, I agree he'd be a better real VP candidate for all sorts of reasons--but it would lack

the entertainment value as the trump apoplexy rating and republican backtracking quotients would be a little lower, given Mattis's more recent role as a cornerstone of the administration's credibility from the time of the transition.

McRaven has made it quite clear that he sees trump as a danger to the country, and I hope he will continue to make his voice heard.

(To be clear, though, I don't think either is the right choice for Biden. I just enjoy imagining the republican reactions )

5. I agree that Cuomo would be a wonderful choice.

My genuine fear is that Biden picks a woman of color, and people here finally learn how deep and ingrained racial prejudice is in this country.

She's said they have a good relationship. But they would both have to be closely vetted to make sure he wouldn't do something to embarass her. Like campaign with Trump or make an ad for him.

Then, the next segment would be about Benghazi. Why ask for that?

11. I wish Biden hadn't limited himself with his choices.

There are plenty of good choices of both genders, but I think a presidential nominee owes it to the country to pick that one person who best fits the president-to-be as their partner and successor-in-waiting, even if that succession never comes.

Oddly enough, the last three times that this DID happen, the president did indeed choose wisely, even if the selection wasn't made on that basis. LBJ turned out to be a hell of a president on domestic policy (he would have made the top tier without the albatross of Vietnam). Harry Truman surprised everyone with how sharp he was, and Gerry Ford was about as decent a guy as the Republican Party had to offer after Asshole Agnew vanished into the night, and Nixon then vanished into the dog house of history.

Tim Kaine was an OK guy, but had Hillary chosen someone that inspired the voters more, I think she would have been unbeatable. For a VP that needs to capture voters' imagination, competence is a prerequisite, but not sufficient. Kaine was competent. He just didn't blow us away. Obama and Biden fit like one glove, and it showed. Ask John McCain's ghost. Gore and Lieberman did not, and it cost us dearly.

If I were whispering in Biden's ear (and I'm not), I would tell him to choose someone who makes him feel as good about his selection as he did to Obama, AND make sure the public will be just as enthusiastic as he is. THAT is the ticket that will put Trumppence six feet under. It can still be done. I hope he asks Obama about his potential choice before making the final decision. Consult someone who already went through the process, and chose brilliantly.

16. Lots of good points DFW. This just seems like a moment

In time that who is picked is more critical than ever. Over and above, electoral votes and personal compatibility.

Not to sound cliche, but I think we need to think about what people are lacking now...levels 2 & 3?

17. Glad u said that. Thought I was the only one. Even if he had

It in the back of his mind, what was the gain in announcing? Ridding our world of trump and minimizing loss of life due to hateful police brutality or a virus surely outweighs anyone's strongest desire to have a woman in power in 2021?

18. I have on occasion said here that if

he picks a woman of color as his VP, the true extent of racism in this country will become very clear. It would be nice to think that the core of the Democratic voters will vote for him no matter who he has on the ticket with him, but the racists will be re-motivated to vote for Trump, and not for someone they see as not fully human.

22. I wish it was more accepted here - to analyze situations

and discuss rationally. Bet you got flamed? The point is why would anyone want to just blindly follow and badger anyone who might want to discuss different angles.

My gut is to not try anything that has the potential of hurting our chances for whatever reason. And start plugging, " do you want THIS man in charge of the future vaccine?"

23. Oddly enough, I have not gotten flamed when I've said that. I might be on ignore with a lot more

people than I realize. However, I did get flamed a lot every time I hinted that it might be nice to have a candidate who isn't old enough for Medicare. That's a strangely unpopular sentiment, and has been for a very long time.

I have suggested that Jimmy Carter would make an excellent candidate, given he already has experience in the WH and is still eligible for another term.

25. It's the geeky intelligent sounding user name!! :) I chose mine

like the day we caught bush drinking beer in China. DU used to let us change our user names periodically. Who knew it was the last time.

Love the way you think outside the box. Carter! Need more of that in our leadership! We got nothing on curbing Russian election interference. Amazes me that we just give up with a "Mitch won't let us." Too late now but a year or two ago, we could have had a national telethon to raise $$ for anti-tampering software for precincts. We would have had the best performers in the land. "Why are we doing?", they'd ask. "Because GOP and trump refuse to."

There's always the possibility of simply starting all over, which I have actually done. This name is a start over. But it's somewhat annoying to be greeted as a newcomer when you're not.
