US conservatives seeing multiculturalism, radical Muslims seeing Muhammad...same thin skin!

(I know some have seen this thread before but I'd like to repost with a more interesting title.)

gee...."as American as apple pie" can be racist too if all those people of color don't eat it. I am SICK of progressives' attacks on our culture. I AM OFFENDED when people coming to our country find it necessary to denigrate OUR CULTURE and teachers who are teaching OUR CHILDREN to somehow feel like they have to apologize for being AMERICAN.

Translated: WAAAAAAAAAAAH! SOMEBODY dared disagree with MY culture and say something too big for MY little brain! I'm going to riot on the Internet instead of rioting like those Mooslimz who saw that cheesy Muhammad movie!

That was a Facebook comment from the Portland (Oregon) Tribune website (more details after my comment).

In the light of the riots in the Middle East over that super corny Muhammad movie, I've gotta say to conservatives who laugh at those Muslims: go take a look in the mirror, specifically the conservative hyperventilation over anything suggesting multiculturalism or white privilege or anything that suggests that non-white Americans are as human as white Americans.

I was snooping around the internet and found a claim that a school principal called peanut butter and jelly sandwiches possibly racist. Googled and found this Huffington Post article. Have you seen your RW friends posting this story on Facebook (not the HP article rather something from the Blaze, Gateway Pundit, any right wing shock blog)?

...in conjunction with recent equity training in local Portland schools, one principal is raising questions about the mention of the sandwich, arguing it has broader implications about race, the Portland Tribune reports.

The sandwich was reportedly mentioned in a lesson plan last year. Verenice Gutierrez from the Harvey Scott K-8 School used it as an example of a subtle form of racism in language, according to the report.

“What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?” Gutierrez said, according to the Tribune. “Another way would be to say: ‘Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that?’ Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta. Or pita.”

Since word of the news spread, however, several bloggers and Twitter users took issue with the claim that a sandwich might be racially charged and deemed the principal's statements absurd.

The author of a post on Twitchy.com wrote that "The sane are quick to rightly mock this latest asinine claim."

The author then featured a selection of tweets mocking the implication that mention of the sandwich has anything to do with race issues...

Another comment from the Portland Tribune online, after the one I posted at the beginning, as the tweets were pretty mild in comparison:

Teaching against 'Peanut butter sandwiches and White white privilege' is critical thinking? NO, that is racism and radical activism. It is easy to see who the racist are and they are on the left. Our educators are the stupid people, they are spending too much time on crap like this. No wonder our kids cant read.

From seeing the RW reaction (I don't even want to click on Gateway pundit or any of those RW sewer sites that popped up when I googled this story), I can NOT find ANY reason why I'd ever want to be conservative in this country when this is the kind of thin-skinned shit they say in response to ANYTHING they see that contradicts their rigid, narrow-minded vision of True America(TM). The more I see the kinds of stories that right wingers want to be outraged about or even blatant LIES (like Obama's birth certificate or whatever fake stings that James O'Keefe creates), the lower my opinion of modern American conservatism.

who are by definition conservative themselves.

They all believe that the world should be 'just like us' and if it isn't, 'keep it away from me'.
