yes there are people who have mental development issues and are literally incapable of feeling empathy.

But more likely scenario is that it is simply experience.

Often those who did "make it" for whatever reason, seek to pull the ladder up to keep others from getting what they got. They create a new persona for themselves that is completely divoced from what they came from.

I can just see a younger Mitt swiveling his hips and doing back flips with his Fender stratocaster as he kisses the sky and unleashes a torrid string of bluesy notes while the groupies squeal.
