The Romney video - staff do not exist as human beings
What strikes me about the Romney video was how akin the situation was to the aristocracy in the 1800's in the sense that the staff was completely invisible to them - the staff simply did not exist as human beings. It is not like someone snuck into the room and recorded it - there were wait staff working the tables the entire time he was talking. The possibility that someone in that "47 percent" might actually be in the room never occurred to Romney or any of the other people at that table because service, to those people, is not performed by human beings - service just happens (and had better be as unobtrusive as is possible). They are "attended" by invisible, lesser beings who don't listen, don't see, don't have lives, don't have opinions, and better not have emotions. To me that was one of the creepiest aspects of the video.
