Townhall: Let's Be Honest, There was Nothing Conservative About the Confederacy

Conservatism is about an unchanging, unchallenged social hierarchy. Those who rule are always meant to rule, those who serve were meant to serve.

Conservatism is a repudiation of the Enlightenment. There are no rights of man (humanity), only the divine rule of monarchs.

White Europeans believed they had an eternal right to rule over Black Africans. The Africans had no rights, only a duty to serve and submit. What could be more conservative than this key principle of the Confederacy?

Still family, even if you disown them

would never allow the evolution of the tenets of brotherhood to take root. But suddenly such cherished beliefs of human hierarchical structures are being questioned on a large scale human basis. Is this new, or are we just now noticing it?

It was an exercise in trying to find justification for their selfishness. It was so conservative that it wandered into the reactionary when they didn’t get their way.

I don’t appreciate the author’s attempt to tie the confederacy to the Democratic Party, Occupy Wall Street, and antifa (whatever TF that is).

The Confederate flag supporters have co-opted the Nazi flag as partners.

Yep, that sure sounds like Townhall . . .

or at least a good history lesson:

Thomas Jefferson is portrayed as a happy-go-lucky wealthy Southerner who wanted to protect the South's wealth from Hamilton's designs to get the nation out of debt due to the Revolutionary War, stressing that the reason for the accumulation of wealth was due to the profits resulting from slave labor. One problem with this type of capitalistic system has to do with stratification, where labor forces are kept oppressed. Sounds very "conservative" to me.
