New NYT editorial: Romney, not Obama, is waging class warfare

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/19/opinion/mitt-romney-class-warrior.html

It turns out that Mitt Romney was right. There is class warfare being waged in the 2012 campaign. It is Mr. Romney who is waging it, not President Obama, and he’s stood the whole idea on its head.

When you think of class warfare, you probably think of inciting anger, resentment and jealousy among the have-nots against the haves. That’s what Mr. Romney has accused Mr. Obama of doing, but those charges have always been false. The truth is that Mr. Romney has been trying to incite the anger of a small slice of the richest Americans who need no government assistance but get it anyway, against the working poor, the elderly, the disabled workers and veterans, and even a significant chunk of middle-class Americans.

... Gone was the pretense that he will be a president of all Americans. Mr. Romney rather neatly divided the country between the people who matter and the 47 percent he does not care about.

... The right wing has long been whining about people who don’t pay taxes and who therefore don’t deserve a say in government. They have it exactly backward. The shame is not that those people don’t pay income taxes. The shame is how many poor people there are when the top 1 percent can amass uncountable fortunes fed by tax breaks and can donate tens of millions of dollars to political candidates to keep it that way.

The rest of us.... well, if GOP, Inc. can legislate higher taxes for the rest of us, then "as little as possible" for our tax brackets will still be far more than "as little as possible" for his.

Since he does and has recently proclaimed this faith publicly, he should beware of this:

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

And this:

"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money."

They loan it to us in the form of pay but they expect to get it back all when we buy stuff.

It's the mindset of the owners of the mining companies that had all of their workers in company homes and who paid them in vouchers only redeemable at the company store. You WORK for food and clothing. You were OWNED. Nothing more than property and considered more disposable than the bits on the ends of the jack hammers. Oh, and look over there at that guy who's tough and has been here for ten years, you don't see him acting like a "victim", do you? No! He's a REAL man. Make the boss proud. God wants you to work too, the company preacher said so, he also said the owner was a saint. Besides, the company doctor deemed there was nothing wrong with you as you coughed up blood from black lung. Besides, you have no other options. This is your place in society. Now shut up and get to work you wuss.

The politics of envy has been the modus operandi for the Republicans a long time. They get the rank and file angry because they work while illegals get free college (untrue), free medical (no more than anyone else that can make it to an emergency room), and anybody who pays no taxes. Republicans are Believers, which make their social agenda so believable. They are afraid and have envy for all those who do not have to work and are living the good life. Read Yahoo postings sometime. Have some Pepito handy when you do. Hate all those who are below you. Disdain is the Republican theology, the world exist for the better sorts. R watch Titanic some time.

about what he really believes, instead of lying to the commoners while smiling smugly and winking to his rich backers.

Now we know why Romney lies so much. When he tells the truth, it gets really, really ugly.

These are the firm opinions of much of the Republican party. This country is split, perhaps worse than it was during the Nam era, only instead of younge vs old, it is rich vs poor.
