The IRS just called me from Ontario to say I'm risking jail and suspension of my social security.
The voice mail was polite, though. He wrapped up with "thank you and have blessed day."

36. Yes as a Canadian, I also get calls
from the IRS saying they are going to send a sheriff to arrest me if I don't pay up. We don't have IRS we have CRA. Whoever does these fraud calls does not seem to know the difference between our countries.

You provided your full social security number, just to make sure they suspend the correct one, along with your mother’s maiden name and your bank account numbers!

I later got one of those calls. I ran into my diving buddy a bit later and had the sadistic pleasure of handing over the imposter’s phone number to someone from the REAL IRS.

I always ask them which account... then after a long pause...I get transferred to a 'manager' and the fun begins. They really, really get pissed when I answer EVERY one of their question with a question. I really need to study up on Hindi profanity.

Rule number one: Burn their time. That, and take every opportunity to go off on some bizarre tangent and talk over them (That really pisses them off). They are pretty entertaining, especially when you get them off script.

26. Did you disclose your shady deals and offer a check?
You must come clean about taking money from investors in your invisible mask company; what percentage of the $2.8 million should you pay them?
Or maybe it was the topless shirt company investors who turned you in? There was much less alleged fraud last year, not quite a million.... Then ask them to mail an invoice to you at: Attn: OIC Finances (that's the name of your accounting firm) * street address of local DA or sheriff |

27. Indian accent? Many of my scam IRS calls have that accent
The IRS never calls without first mailing. And even then calls are extremely rare. The IRS has no business involving social security.
Today I got a call Where the Indian person said he was calling for a bank in Tampa to authorize a reduction of interest on my credit cards. Normally I oppose the death penalty .... |

28. Here's what's disturbing about your story
Obviously, you were too smart for these scammers. But not everyone is! That's how their scams work: if one mark hangs up, they just move on because some people will fall for it. Otherwise the scammers wouldn't waste their time.
It's the same with internet scams in that some people fall for the scam. It's sad and pathetic. Oh, and have a blessed day, eh? |

Is your SSN, you bank account numbers, the deed to the farm, your first born child and a fat check to make the problem go away. The good scammers will now have their phone numbers read as if from being an appropriate zone.
