The IRS just called me from Ontario to say I'm risking jail and suspension of my social security.

The voice mail was polite, though. He wrapped up with "thank you and have blessed day."

And had some delays getting packages back and forth through Customs.

36. Yes as a Canadian, I also get calls

from the IRS saying they are going to send a sheriff to arrest me if I don't pay up. We don't have IRS we have CRA. Whoever does these fraud calls does not seem to know the difference between our countries.

2. I certainly hope

You provided your full social security number, just to make sure they suspend the correct one, along with your motherís maiden name and your bank account numbers!

"Please press one to be connected with an officer."

But it is not nearly as well known as the Canadian one, nor are the people as polite.

Can't confirm, but I'm pretty sure the IRS is in D.C., or in big cities in, you know, THE UNITED STATES!
They're scamming, but they're barely trying!

13. I once went on a dive trip with someone from the IRS

I later got one of those calls. I ran into my diving buddy a bit later and had the sadistic pleasure of handing over the imposterís phone number to someone from the REAL IRS.

Do I feel guilty?

Nah.

18. When the IRS calls about threatening to suspend my 'Social'...

I always ask them which account... then after a long pause...I get transferred to a 'manager' and the fun begins. They really, really get pissed when I answer EVERY one of their question with a question. I really need to study up on Hindi profanity.

Rule number one: Burn their time. That, and take every opportunity to go off on some bizarre tangent and talk over them (That really pisses them off). They are pretty entertaining, especially when you get them off script.

26. Did you disclose your shady deals and offer a check?

You must come clean about taking money from investors in your invisible mask company; what percentage of the $2.8 million should you pay them?

Or maybe it was the topless shirt company investors who turned you in? There was much less alleged fraud last year, not quite a million....

Then ask them to mail an invoice to you at:

Attn: OIC Finances (that's the name of your accounting firm)
* street address of local DA or sheriff

27. Indian accent? Many of my scam IRS calls have that accent

The IRS never calls without first mailing. And even then calls are extremely rare. The IRS has no business involving social security.

Today I got a call Where the Indian person said he was calling for a bank in Tampa to authorize a reduction of interest on my credit cards.

Normally I oppose the death penalty ....

28. Here's what's disturbing about your story

Obviously, you were too smart for these scammers. But not everyone is! That's how their scams work: if one mark hangs up, they just move on because some people will fall for it. Otherwise the scammers wouldn't waste their time.

It's the same with internet scams in that some people fall for the scam. It's sad and pathetic.

Oh, and have a blessed day, eh?

The speaker spoke standard U.S. English, but the script was written by somebody for whom English is not their first language.

29. And all they want

Is your SSN, you bank account numbers, the deed to the farm, your first born child and a fat check to make the problem go away. The good scammers will now have their phone numbers read as if from being an appropriate zone.

open it, there's someone at the post office to call 911. They're thoughtful like that.

The first time I toyed with him for a minute or two. The next four times I let them have it with both barrels
