When I asked her if she had seen Mitt Romney's hidden video:

She looked mad as hell and said, "What the hell is wrong with him?!!"

She told me she will not vote for him now.

That meme was old when that malevolent dwarf Newt said it. I guess we're supposed to believe that Obama convinced people with good jobs to quit them so they could go on the public dole. The fact that more people are on food stamps now has absolutely nothing to do with the economic collapse and jobs being sent to China and elsewhere where people work for 25 cents a hour. I guess we were just supposed to let these people starve to death.

Move along, folks. Nothing to see here. And ignore the man behind the curtain.

January 2009 I think, an old right-winger came through my line and started going on about Obama and socialism and blah blah blah. I just nodded, corrected him on a couple of points and tried to speed him to the end of the transaction. Then he opens his wallet and pulls out an EBT (food stamp) card. We both look at it.

*crickets*

He then blusters "Well I guess I'll just pay with my commie card then!"

I do give him credit though, though he clearly was in need of the card, the next few times he came through my line he paid with dollars, loose change, and bottle return slips instead of the card. He at least could see the hypocracy of railing against a program he was partaking in.

The really sad thing is he didn't seem to realise that he really was entitled to it, he had contributed into the system his entire working life.

But individuals making ridiculous gobs of money and demanding ever more are different from the corporate publically traded model. The corporation does not represent people as much as it does an amoral, heartless, mathematical formula that is fixed in it's concern to only maximize quarterly return on rate of investment at any cost.

That said there clearly are many, many members of the 1% that have an illness regarding money.

36. Excellent story up there, uplifting. Hope the good vibes keep spreading. Those numbers he cited...
Wed Sep 19, 2012, 12:03 AM
Sep 2012

Well, they are true. I don't think he understood the fire he set there.

Those number are made of people who:

Have not yet paid taxes -- the children in your school;

Have or have not been able to pay taxes -- those born disabled or disabled from working;

And the elderly -- who already paid their taxes.

Being able to work and pay taxes is not the standard for being a human and being treated with dignity. People that are in education know that as their lives are not based on money alone.

Teachers may not be paying taxes either -- I've known some who had to get food stamps, go to food banks and get on utility assistance and worked every day. Their tax rate was very low or not at all some years but that didn't mean they were lazy.

They 'followed all the rules and made good choices' as Obama says, and still, they are not independently wealthy. They are caretakers to their families, to other people, they work several jobs and don't party or indulge themselves --- they are not slothful or whatever it is Mitt is saying they are.

The Romneys, Ayn Rand cultists and Libertarians go by dollar value only. If you have money now, you get. If you don't have money, and can't get any, die and make way for the Supermen.

That's not the vision that Mayor Castro showed us at the DNC, of working people passing the baton forward to the next generation.

Many are brave enough to admit in the face of relentless RW sitgmatizing, that they had to get public help at some time in their lives. And now they can pay taxes. My Depression era family said paying taxes is a sign of pride, because it means you have a job that can pay taxes.

Romney doesn't know how to work, never did without, his whole life has been a vacation. That's why he doesn't respect those who are tired and need one. I'd say he needs to go home, but he is afraid to because he has to justify himself.

I'm feeling sorry for the man as I don't think he ever really grew up. If he lost all of his money and connections, I think he'd kill himself. He couldn't imagine the lives many of us have. We have had the courage to hold together. We'll be alright.

Heck, in Michigan, we pay an extra tax of 3% of our paycheck to pay for the current teacher retirees (supposedly will be there when we retire, but no one's dumb enough to believe that). I lose a ton in taxes every year, even though if I didn't get child/spousal support we'd qualify for food stamps.

Just did not make enough to pay income taxes the way Romney says. They worked several jobs, just as a number of state workers I know now have to work.

They pay their health insurance, retirement fund, taxes for SS and other things, but didn't end up owing at the end of the year or got EIC. Because they are taking care of other people.

One in particular did not get spousal support after their divorce and was lucky to hold onto the equity in their house and finance the rest to keep her home. She had to get food stamps and utility assistance. Her girl has Down's and she had to get her on Medicaid when she retired and her girl was no longer covered.

Most of the teachers I've known are real life savers and they do not deserve the hatred that is being flung at them from the GOP.

At least in discussion we were able to resolve it down to fundamental differences in viewpoint - I think people are basically good, basically honest, hardworking like us, going to work every day, sitting at home with their families, talking about things, etc.

Whenever I see him, we speak neighborly -like and usually end up in a political conversation. His objection to President Obama ... "He's a socialist", "He's killing industry with his regulations", "Obamacare is evil" ... you know, the typical teaparty narrative.

Well, I haven't seen him in awhile; but I still see his truck ... I noticed the other day, both bumperstickers were gone!

He lost his GOVERNMENT job, working for the state, under bush AND bat$shit crazy, teaparty darling Governor jan brewer.

It was always funny getting all passive-aggressive with this guy ... Me, with a BA, MA and JD and 25+ years in professional employment, him with a high school diploma and an unskilled laborer (former) job; Me, with an equally academically and professionall accomplished wife, him with a equally unaccomplished wife, who quit her government clerical job to pursue a real estate career ... in 2006, just AFTER the housing market imploded; me living in a house I (and my wife) bought, him living in a house next door to his wife's parents that his wife's parents bought at 20% above market, so that their daughter's commission would be more.

Yeah ... the devil in me has great fun with him ... but I don't think he gets my digs.

Come November, she'll voe for Mitten's anyway.

She'll have 50 days to reconcile her decision, before
she enters that both and places her mark next to Mittens!

Any chance you can ask her about what she thinks of Ayn Rand's philosophy?

"What is wrong with him? He just needs to stop talking!"
However, there was no declaration of losing her vote.

Well, it's a start. Here's hoping he keeps talking.
