A 13-Year-Old Will Be Tried As An Adult For Shooting And Killing His Brother While Playing Cops And Robbers

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ellievhall/13-year-old-cops-robbers-brother-shot-kill-dads-gun

A 13-year-old boy in Pennsylvania will be tried as an adult for fatally shooting his 9-year-old brother in the head, according to online court dockets.

Brayden Leroy Wright of Waynesboro was charged Wednesday with first-degree criminal homicide and second-degree aggravated assault. He was denied bail.

According to a state police arrest affidavit obtained by the Patriot-News, Brayden shot his brother as they were playing cops and robbers at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The 13-year-old told arresting officer Erica Polcha that he retrieved one of the two loaded 9mm handguns that their father kept in the living room couch to use during the game. The boys' father, Mark Snyder, later told police that he kept the guns loaded and unsecured "for home protection."

Polcha said that Brayden told her he became angry when his brother "was not complying with his commands" in the game. Brayden then reportedly put the muzzle of the gun to the back of his sibling's head as he lay on the couch watching YouTube videos.

When playing cop becomes a little too real. We can't forget that COVID isn't the only thing mercilessly killing Americans.

Loaded unsecured weapons and a son that somewhere, somehow learned the ins and outs of gangland assassinations by shooting someone at point blank range in the back of the head?

That sick motherfucking excuse for a father is the one who should be on trial for contributing to the delinquency, aiding and abetting murder one and child abuse.

A child is charged as an "adult" for using his father's unsecured and loaded handgun, while playing, but no actual adults were charged with any crimes?

This is completely insane.

I'd think a delinquency charge could be thrown in there, depending on the gun laws in that state. I'd like to hope for accomplice but that won't happen.

I mean, yes, the child is clearly dangerous and needs to be separated from society. I’m not in favor of trying children as adults, but this was intentional and he was certainly old enough to understand that what he was doing was wrong and what pulling that trigger meant. I’d much rather see him get mental health treatment. But seriously, the father bears some responsibility as well. Keeping an unsecured, loaded gun in the house with kids is criminal negligence.

...I belong to several woodworking groups on Facebook and a common topic is building furniture that incorporates secret gun stashes where weapons can be hidden but immediately accessible. No way to secure the weapons, like a gun safe-- the goal is to keep them unsecured but hidden, instantly ready for "home defense." Coffee tables with tops that lift to reveal hidden compartments and hollow wall shelves are popular variations.

They're just using the kid as a scapegoat for the consequences of an adult's gun negligence.

According to the affidavit, Brayden told police that he was aware the gun was loaded when he pointed it at his brother's head and pulled the trigger. The bullet, investigators said, went through the 9-year-old boy's skull and out the other side of his head.

...being tried as an adult was the rarest of occasions, usually for extraneous and hideous crimes, like murdering your whole family in cold blood...including your three year old sister? And usually the person in question was at least 17?

But now, getting a kid tried as an adult is a Resume builder for any aspiring prosecutor. What a sick society we have become.

What I'd like to know is why the two kids were home alone at 6 in the morning. And the whole "cops and robbers" thing is a stupid thing to fixate on, because it sounds like the brother wasn't even playing with him. He just grabbed the gun and shot his brother because he wouldn't play with him. Then he hid the gun and called 911 and said that his brother was hurt in a fall. The kid sounds like a psychopath.
