(36,418 posts)Mark, like so many pampered children of privilege of his era went hard-right in the last decade or two, debasing the legacy of their fathers. Mike Wallace's spawn from Hell also comes to mind.

(63,901 posts)his case. He became a civil libertarian, having been burned so badly by the Nixonians. He had also gone over to the anti-war side on Vietnam.
I don't think Mark is an idealogue. He strikes me as being out for Number One, himself. If it serves his purpose to veer right, he'll do it. If he needs to veer left (not too far of course) he'll do that. He is making lots of money off of his book and the TV movie made of it. I like his writing partner, John Heilemann, better.

(36,418 posts)a true liberal to have come into the corporate media when he did, and to have survived if he appeared to be anything but a self-interested opportunist and yes-man, which in my book is pretty much synonymous with being RW.
Today, I don't think a John Hershey, David Halberstam, Ed Murrow or Mike Wallace could get hired, and probably wouldn't want to stay.
A lack of real political principles and journalistic ethics (don't laugh) is a prerequisite these days.

(25,415 posts)I much prefer his co author, John Heilemann. Although I would say Halperin does go after Repubs when they possess sheer stupidity in terms of their tactics. Still a neo con though.
