There's no there there
One of the narratives that I have seen repeated several times about Mitt Romney is that he doesn't know why he's running for president. It's also conventional wisdom in the MSM at this point that he seems soulless and cold.
The video, to me, does an excellent job of highlighting why this is: there's just no vision.
On the Middle East, he said that under a Romney presidency he would kick the can down the road and hope that something happens. For the economy, he implied that if he became president, capital would naturally start flowing again.
Most damning, he's possibly the first presidential candidate ever to try to shoo people out of the tent. He doesn't understand that being president of the United States means being the president of the homeless man passed out in the gutter from cheap hooch. Instead of reaching out a hand to the people at the bottom and saying "Come join me," he's on the record as saying he hopes they take responsibility for keeping up with the rest of us.
On a more practical note, presidents have to work with congress. How could a president Romney get one democrat to vote for anything after having called them and their entire constituencies a bunch of grifters?
He's had seven years to come up with a coherent statement of policies or directions that he would like to take the country in, something that people can hitch their wagons to, and he's got nothing. Not one thing. People have accused Obama of running on platitudes, but Romney's done nothing else.
Has anyone even heard him mention one person other than Paul Ryan that he would hope to work with, or one bill languishing in the legislature that he would like to see pass? One single idea that goes deeper than "I support a free people and a free economy?"
Mitt Romney is an empty space in the shape of a man.
