Just flipped over. Huge number of people around a white guy teeing off.

Then I saw there was a weather delay. It was used-golf footage from last year.
PSYCH!!!!! 🤪😊😏
BTW - F Jack Nicklaus. Trump supporter. He had to pull his company off being publicly traded because they had completely BS books. Sound familiar?

Golf is right wing as a rule. But Nicklaus takes it to another level. His appearances on stage for Republicans in Ohio are nothing but pure scowling hate. In 2012 Nicklaus was so dismissive of Obama he refused to use his name. He'd throw out his arms and say, "that other guy," while launching a lie.
I appreciate the LPGA because it is considerably more balanced and sensible. I can walk those gallery ropes and talk to spectators and even family members. I have met several LPGA moms who are anti-Trump.
But walking several PGA events in Florida during spring 2016 is what convinced me that Trump's support was being severely understated. Those crowds were angry white males and totally transfixed by Trump. I reported it here at the time. It is impossible to attend a PGA tournament and have any silly notion that Trump's support is going to cave to 30% or whatever. There are MAGA hats and shirts everywhere. One political remark after another from the gallery. I'll be watching someone putt and hear the two guys in front of me spewing hatred toward Democrats.

(182,589 posts)Growing up playing golf and being from Ohio, Jack was like a god.
I knew about his golf company getting busted flat out lying. Thats pre-2008.
When I saw him on stage with Trump ...that was it. Hes done to me.

(14,565 posts)Circa mid '80s and into the '90s. My mom would buy them at JC Penney and send them to me in Las Vegas. She knew I lived them.
I loved Nicklaus and fellow Buckeye Tom Weiskopf. The only time I would root against Nicklaus was when Weiskopf had a chance also. Weiskopf was the only guy who hit the ball higher, further and more impressively than Jack. But he didn't have the same mental strength, and freely admitted it.
Nicklaus was campaigning for Republicans long before Trump. Seemingly every 4 years he gets even nastier during those rally appearances in Ohio.
Arnold Palmer also campaigned for Republicans but in a more low stated manner.

(2,944 posts)article about Lehman a couple of weeks back and the article made him out to be a saint. A friend told me about the article and she said she would have believed the article if not for my personal experiences/comments about Lehman. Another born again grifter.

(14,565 posts)In fact, I would say #1, based on all the publicly available stories plus the anecdotes I've heard over the decades. He is certainly the name I think of first in this category. Lehman's prime was during the Clinton years. Supposedly he ranted and ranted about Clinton as a "draft-dodging baby killer," while on the practice range and everywhere else.
I absolutely loved it when the United States got destroyed in the Ryder Cup when Lehman was captain. It was one of the most lopsided victories for Europe and some of the winning European players had made remarks critical of George Bush in the years prior. This was during the Iraq War era.
While walking LPGA galleries the worst I have heard are Gerina Piller and her husband Martin Piller, who is a journeyman PGA player. During the height of the Kaepernick situation a few years ago Martin Piller was following Gerina in the gallery at a Naples event while repeatedly calling Kaepernick "human trash." Gerina was only yards away inside the gallery ropes, laughing every time her husband said it.
I liked Gerina on Big Break. But she has never won an LPGA event and I'll be rooting for that to continue.
Lexi Thompson's family is also heavy right wing. Likewise the Cristie Kerr family. Her father follows Cristie in a scooter and makes vile remarks regarding Democrats all the time.

They ragged in Tiger for speaking at Obamas inauguration. He was like - hes the first black President, how the hell can I NOT go?

(14,565 posts)David Duval said at one time he thought he was the only registered Democrat on tour. Via sheer logic I'm sure there were others but they shut up about it.
When the major golf magazines have polled PGA pros anonymously on presidential races the Democrat has sometimes received 30+%.
Geoff Ogilvy and a few others have made comments about how ignorant the American pros are in regard to politics. That was back in the Bush era.
Golf forums are overrun with wing nuts. Most of them ban political discussion for that reason. But I throw in a few subtle jabs, only after the topic surfaces the other way. I have been sent many PMs on those sites by fellow liberals telling me they love it when I irritate the crowd.

(14,565 posts)McIlroy had a famous incident in which he threw his club into the lake on #8 after a bad shot. Way out into the lake. Trump had divers go out there and retrieve it. The next day Trump presented the club to McIlroy on the range.
I was there to witness both the tossed club and the presentation the next day. McIlroy enjoyed the moment. The crowd went nuts. McIlroy's father is always in the gallery. He was beaming also.
I think that's why there's a friendship between the two, even if McIlroy's comments over the years do not align with right wing politics.
